I am in a similar situation, my 0% card ends in two months with £2000 on it, just been made redundanct. Havegot income pretection (seperate from cards) so should be able to afford payments but having to pay interest really annoys me. i dodnt want to do anything that will harm my future credit rating unless neccessary - ie tell the card company.

as long as you are making the min payment on time telling the card company you have been made redundant wont affect any credit rating
if you are getting a decent redundancy package and are confident about getting a new job quickly why not pay off some of the card with the redundancy thus making lower monthly payments as your income protection may not kick in straight away

by the way I have looked at getting a Visa debit card, but a Visa debit card is Visa Electron, and not a true Visa card which the American sites tend to accept.

A Visa debit card is not necessarily the same as Visa Electron. Visa Classic Debit (often, but not always, called Delta) is a full debit card that is accepted in all places a Visa credit card is. My Nationwide Flexaccount and Coventry First account both have full Visa Debit cards, not Electron.

As a general rule, I think classic Visa debit cards have embossed numbers b(i.e. slightly raised from the card's surface) whereas Electron cards are non-embossed.

    Hope this helps.
