Can I get a credit card if im unemployed?

I currently have no job but I would like a credit card, not to run up huge debts but just to use to buy things from places that dont accept my Maestro card. I went to sign up for a Morgan Stanley card but it says I need my Employer name and address, which I obviously dont have. Is there a way around this, or are there other cards that dont require you to have a job?

What sort of income do you have, and how do you intend paying back the amount borrowed.Aiming to be debt free....but still off target0

i've got alot of money im my isa, savings and current account and i dont expect to spend more than £100 a year on it and i would pay off all debts instantly, like i say its only for places that dont accept Switch like american web sites.0

Credit card companies are going to want to see a regular income of some sort, saving whilst good for you are useless to them, try your Bank first.Aiming to be debt free....but still off target0

Try Capital One Classic. you'll most likely get a low limit (£200 ish) but they do increase it after 6 months as long as you have been paying it off on time.
But remember its a high Apr
i would say you maybe better off getting a debit Visa Card.0 -

While Capital One may very well give you a card, I would still try your Bank first, after all they can see what savings you have, you could also save yourself some cash in interest payments if you dont clear the balance every month.Aiming to be debt free....but still off target0 -
As an absolute last resort, you could get a pre-paid card, such as http://www.mycashplus.co.uk .
Expensive, but you might find that the costs are outweighed by the savings of buying on line. There's an article about it at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/working_lunch/4264066.stm
Probably better to switch your current account to a bank that issues Visa debit cards.0 -
the pre-paid one looks great but im not keen on paying per month! I went to apply for the Capital One card but their site gives me an error when I submit so ill try later, thanks people.
by the way I have looked at getting a Visa debit card, but a Visa debit card is Visa Electron, and not a true Visa card which the American sites tend to accept.0 -
