Hi
Not quite sure if this is the best idea just now as Im still unfortunately in debt. And still quite a bit too!
Long story but dont know how long I can stay with my family due to many issues (the only saving grace is not expensive) but my friend has recently asked me to move out with her. The thing is she doesnt have a job (dont ask cuz I really dont know but apparently she gets quite a bit of money (£750ish) from DWP etc.
I have worked out my money and I have £666 (spooky I know) spare each month and we are looking at flats around the £500 mark.
2 questions. First will I get credit checked before I sign up (my credit rating although not been checked is im pretty sure at the lowest score possible) and will this make me get knocked back?
Secondly is this visable? Ive tried rough calculation at
500 rent
council tax?
50 gas/leccy
180 food
20 tv
15 internet
=
£765
divide by 2 =382.
leaving me =£284 for debt, travel etc.
Am i living in fantasy land here?

Hi purpletopaz
"I think you have missed water rates off your calc - and contents insurance?"
Im Scottish so we dont pay water rates up here although Im sure thet council tax covers that? And contents insurance... I dont have anything worth insuring. Seems an unnecessary expense tbh.0 -
WOW you dont pay water rates in scotland I never knew that.
If you phone your local council after you have found somewhere to rent they will tell you what band it is and how much it will be before you decide.0 -
Everyday's a school day eh purple?

Regarding council tax, my friend is considering going into full time education. Just now she is staying around about peoples houses and is effectively homeless. I dont know her situation exact but all I know she had a really tough past few years and she get gets DWP etc. So i was assuming (possibly incorrectly) council tax wouldnt be an issue.
Could be a possible deal breaker!!0 -
We pay water rates, it is just added into the council tax expense.0

any advice on the original questions though?0

I really dont know if the HB and CTB is the same in scotland as england but if you were thinking you would not have to pay then if you have a limited income you may get some benefit, You may find your local council has a HB and CTB calculator which you and your friend could use to see if you would receive any benefit or not. you would each claim seperately as joint tenants ( if its the same in scotland)
Only you would know if you could live of that income, obviously its cheaper to share than do it alone. Cant answer about the credit scoring, Sorry0 -
Ah well thanks for that. But um... whats HB and CTB (housing and council tax benefits?)
I know getting knocked back for credit makes it even worse and I really dont want a red face of embarresment going to sign up for a house and then get knocked back!0 -
Yes I can understand what you mean, about being Knocked back, but the worst they can say is no. ( embarrasing a bit, but happens to lost of people )
but also if your fiend has not had a pemanant address this could also affect her credit rating too. As she is not working either. do you know what her credit rating is like?
Yes Hb and CTB Benefits.0 -
Ah good point. Ive no idea what hers is! I dont even think she knows but Im presuming its not too great tbh.
I take it you need good credit rating to be allowed to move out?
She doesnt want to go into a homeless unit and I dont blame her. Looks like Im not able to help her out is it?
Any advice would be great peepz.0
