You'd preferrably want a Personal Banking Advisor to do it unless the cashier you're speaking to has the relevent authority on the system to process it on the system.
cant make appointments at reception in branch as it is unmanned, i've raised a complaint centrally about it as its just this branch.
process for getting an appointment involves waiting around for ages, attracting attention of anyone that works there, they make you an appointment in 2 weeks time. branch manager is a confrontational battleaxe, last time i saw her she was shouting at a poor couple that couldnt speak english and then i got a mouthful for wanting to change address

i'm having to find an alternative local (ish) branch to use to close my account
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

I trust BH even if he's from Manchester.. ;)

@elisebutt65: Depends on the rate of interest you're paying on the O/D. If it's at Preferred In Credit rate (19.9% APR on the O/D) though, then switching it to a Preferred Overdraft account that offers 12.9% APR on the O/D facility would be a better idea.

My overdraft is free cos it's a Post Grad account

I've just opened an account with a&l, can I have the zero account when in launches or have I got to move banks again? It doesn't say whether it will be available to a&l customers straight away? I'm guessing it won't but seems pointless switching from an account that will be Santander soon enough anyway? Many thanks.

Then leave it as it is for now (no point paying O/D interest when you don't need to). Just remember that your O/D limit will drop after each year (if memory serves me correctly your limit will most likely drop from £1800 to £1000 after year 1 automatically on the 1st September), so keep that in mind, as it'll be your responsibility to have your balance under this amount when the system drops the limit down.

@hotspur84: A&L Won't transfer over to Santander officially until later this year, so - as far as I can see - A&L current accounts can't be changed to the Zero accounts as they're aren't - yet - Santander current accounts.
  • 11th Jan is my sons birthday and abbey is no more.Fantastic.
I have a deep burning indifference
  • I have an offset mortgage with Abbey presently paying .99%.

Presumably I can withdraw my :Tsavings and have them sitting earning 6% in the new current account.

    Is that correct?

Whilst they can't technically stop you, they don't look too kindly on any advisor's who open current accounts knowing there's no 'new money' going through it each month. If you're simply upgrading and meet the Zero account criteria, then fair play make the most of it (as long as you keep paying wages in, use it for D/D's etc).
  • A+L are not becoming Santander until later in the year, will A+L customers also be able to change accounts from 11/1/10?

Not that I'm aware of, but you could switch your account to take advantage of it or simply wait until A&L legally get rebranded to Santander later in the year.

Will Santander offer a 6% current account for those without a mortgage?
