Terminated Contract Early & Unpaid Remaining Balance As Seemed Unfair... Right??

Hi,
Im writing on behalf of myself and alot of people I know who have terminated there contracts long before they were due to end and given a hefty fee. In most cases, my freinds and I chose not to pay the mobile phone company and has now gone to debt collector after debt collector.
In my case i tryed to negotiate the fee and they were having none of it, so it has now come down to a company called "Moorcroft Debt Recovery".
Shall I try and negotiate a fairer price with them, Or try and pay the debt back in small supplements...
Any Information or advise would be appriciated for all of us....
Many Thanks

once you started your contract, you signed an agreement to fulfill the contract lengh. If you wish to terminate your contract early you are requested to pay the remainder of your contract e.g. 18 month contract and you have 3 months left on a £30 monthly fee (£30 x 3 months = £90 termination fee).
By the looks of it you need to pay the sum of money they have asked you to pay, concidering it's correct.0 -
You started a legally binding contract and at the same time recieved a subsidised phone, you owe the money. If you decide not to pay it your credit file will be badly affected and in future you could have trouble getting any sort of credit such as mortgage, loan, credit card or even another mobile. It's your decision but it could seriously damage your future.0

The networks don't think twice about calling in the heavies when they are owed money but what happens when the shoe is on the other foot?
My wifes 18 month contract came to an end in September and notice of termination was given. We received the final bill, as the line rental was paid one month in advance the account showed £5+ in credit. The was no cheque or any info as to when the credit was to be returned as the direct debit had now been cancelled. Two letters, countless e-mails and still 3UK refuse to refund the credit. They have now sent another final bill only this time after the final 'credit due' they have included a 'debit' which has shown the balance as zero.
How many others have had this happen?0 -
You wouldn't buy a car on finance, stop paying for it halfway through and just expect to keep the car, it's money you owe and needs to be paid.0

As everyone else has said, its a legal contract you can't just stop paying it and expect nothing to happen.
You owe it, so pay it off.0 -

Just so you know i had the same with vodafone.
Final bill was £25 in credit in mid september, 2 months later still no refund. Rang up vodafone, CS agent could see it but they had to reactivate the account to refund. Was sent to refund department.
Early December, i received a revised final bill with -£25 equipment and other fees.
But on 24th december the refund was put into my bank account.
But i did have to get them to refund it!
As to the debt collectors, whilst they do someone offer reduced F&F offers sometimes if they own the debt they do not always do this on smaller debts.
Honestly all you can do is pay it, at some point they may well have enough and begin court action, I've seen on the debt forms a DCA apply for a CCJ for less than £50. You signed a contract and the amounts are correct, you do need to pay.
You also need to remember by default on the contract and not paying, the credit file will have a default on it, which will tarnish the credit file for 6 years! And this means making it harder to get better deals on credit cards and mortgages, if it goes to a CCJ it will make it much much more difficult. The amount doesn't matter as much as the fact you defaulted on a contract.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0
