Is anyone else aware of this? Ive been a payg customer with them for 10 years and only recently got a £20 per month sim only deal. Now im checking my statement to see im been charged 0.09p per delivery report. Im quite shocked because i was never charged as a payg customer.

Is it one of those things buried in the extra extra small print?

It's not hidden anywhere, it's quite clearly stated in their price lists.

    I wouldn't use them.
  • It's been charged for years. Ask yourself this - do you REALLY NEED delivery reports? Or did you just switch it on one night because it looked fun?

When you consider that the postal equivalent, Royal Mail Recorded Signed For, costs 68p a shot, 1p for a delivery report doesn't sound that bad.

    Indeed it is. FYI - http://www1.orange.co.uk/service_plans/downloads/PAYM_PG.v4.1(20091226).pdf - page 17.

If you consider that no other network in the UK (AFAIK) charges for delivery reports then it's quite bad by comparison.

I like delivery reports, I could live without them and probably would if other networks charged for them but the point is that SMS used to cost the network nothing as it "piggybacks" on the networks' control channels. The introduction of (mutual) SMS charges was a bit cheeky in the first place but I think Orange have taken it too far.

There's nothing wrong in healthy (and fair) competition. People need to understand the contract beforehand and can't complain if they don't provided it's what they sign up for. What other networks charge or don't charge for is irrelevant. They are in business to make a profit or there wouldn't be a network to complain about. The worst networks (from my own experience) by far are T-Mobile and Vodafone - the utter is utterly dishonest and it seems its standard practice is to provide "upgrade" contracts which are different to those offered over the phone. Now THAT is something which IS wrong!!

I had this the other month and phoned up on 150

i said that I wasnt aware that i would be charged for delivery reports. They said that it had been posted on their website for ages. I said oh, I dont have access to the internet (which was true at the time)

their reply was "to move this matter foward I am crediting your account with £3 for the 300 texts you sent and have been charged delivery reports on. We suggest that you now switch delivery reports off."

    Very helpful

Thanks all. I guess im shocked because i was a payg customer for so long and was never charged before, so did not even think to look up or ask about this charge.

It been i good service as my messages dont always get delivered but i think its a feature il now do without.
