BT mobile changing from T mobile to Vodafone

Just to let anyone who has a BT MOBILE know. I requested a date from BT as to when they were going to change their network over to the vodafone network due the problems I was having with reception.

Received a reply today

25th January 05

I was surprised they haven't made a statement because it must effect people who have a good T mobile recepton but may have a bad vodafone one.

Hope this helps anyone who has a similar problem to me...

are they permitted to do this without asking clients....?

that means people who called cheaper t-mob to t-mob are now getting charged more ie t-mob-- vodafone [different network]

    sounds a bit fishy!

Thats what I thought...although it hopefully will work in my favour. There will be people I presume who will have reception problems, but I expect that they will get out of it the way they did with me by saying that they do not guarentee indoor coverage.

This may be the reason why they are keeping it quiet.

I wonder if they have told any of the Phone retailers?

Am I correct in thinking that if your with BT Mobile (using the T Mobile Network) you can call another T mobile phone, not sold through BT Mobile, for a lower rate than say BT Mobile to Orange??? Hope this makes sense!! If so, that means my partner will be able, using her vodafone mobile, to call me on my BT Mobile for nothing (at the weekend) after the 25th Jan 05 when they switch to the Vodafone network??? Thats confused me just writing it!!

    sounds very odd to me.

BT Mobile have not had the contract with T-Mobile for very long. They can't switch over just like that ! It takes months of planning

I doubt that it would make any difference from the point of view of charging. Calls from T-Mobile to BT Mobile and vice versa are charged as if they were on a different network, even though they're not. I can't imagine it being any different with Vodafone.

As far as I know, BT have already migrated their busines customers to Vodafone but these were previously on the O2 network (which was part of BT when it was Cellnet) rather than T-Mobile. This is an easier transition because O2 and Vodafone use the same frequency, and the workings of their handsets and network features are more similar.

If they do move their existing customers, I don't see how they could do it without telling them. For a start, they'd have to supply new SIMs. There'd also be the issue of locked phones, although I'm not sure whether BT Mobile has ever supplied any that weren't unlocked. The main differences that people would notice would be changes in the way voicemail and a few other network features operate.

There will be differences in coverage between T-Mobile and Vodafone. Vodafone is generally better, especially in remote areas, but there may be pockets where you'd be better off on T-Mobile.

At a guess, the date of 25th January is for new connections, and existing customers will be migrated over time. It took BT a very long time to transfer customers from its old Mobile Sense (O2) tariff after it did the deal with T-Mobile; I have a feeling I know someone who's still using it.

I just checked with BT via email, they have gone over but I guess it is for new customers intially as I have been asked to phone repairs and request a new sim card.

Phoned them up today and they are actually transferring tomorrow and I have to phone again then to request a new one.

Must say they have been really good at replying to my emails.

I just hope afte all this that my problems will be solved.

Someone sent me a text on Sunday 2.30pm and it arrived tuesday pm !!!

good job it wasn't an emergency!
  • Spoke to BT Mobile yesterday with regards to this, its only NEW customers being transfered onto the Vodaphone network. Existing customers will stay on T-Mobile until the latter half of this year when they will be transfered in batches onto Vodaphone. ETA of the whole process being done an dusted is Feb 2006. I asked if there was anyway I could be transfered (as I need to send MMS to Norway) and the nice lady said only if the signal coverage is bad in your area for T-Mobile, which it so to cut a long story short they are sending me a new Sim (vodaphone) I presume. I just hope it doesnt have an effect on my contract ie 12month extention.
