They do indeed pay money to join - as do many professionals with their acreditation schemes! They can also be thrown out: and enough people complaining about the cowboys will ensure that they ARE thrown out;)"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

Whilst I am sure that there are a large number of cowboy companies out there doing these reports: MY EPC compiler DID look in my loft, and measured with a tape measure:D and they are required to. If yours did not - then report them! The same with mistakes on the report - go back and insist they get it right and if they do not then report them!
This is very much a jobs for the boys exercise that costs us money: the least we should be doing is insisting that they do the job properly.
The problem is that sellers are not told beforehand what the minimum standard for an EPC inspection is so how do we know what is required to satisfy the EPC!
From what I can gather, many are like the Channel Five VCR retuners (remember that) virtually freelance/self employed and then used by the larger HIP sellers.
Biggest waste of money ever for sellers - it could all be done online with a 20 min questionnaire if all we get is a useless report that tells us obvious stuff like replace an old boiler with a condenser and replace old light bulbs etc etc .
DOH! Thanks for the expensive specialist knowledge and input Mr EPC Compliler .We've never have worked that one out.0 -
Anyone know the criteria to get the highest bands in the home report?
I can find example home reports and the advisories that are given, eg, "160mm insulation jacket required for hot water cylinder" but I cant see a score sheet that shows how to tally up what your home currently is.
And thus how to go about getting your rating up.
I'd still like an answer to this question, if anyone knows? Neighbouring flats have been given a C rating, and I am interested to know what that means about my building. Does anyone have a link please?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0
