Budget babes quest to be a better me

Hi and welcome to my diary
It is exactly one year today since I first posted on this site. I have been a member of the: Giving up cutting down alcohol free thread for the past year. I have met some very special and wonderful people on there and to mark my one year anniversary I have decided to start my own diary.
Currently I am not in debt but that is thanks to this site and the help and advice that it gives. I came across mse when my husband lost his job some 16 months ago. I have adopted the tips on here and although our income was more than halved I have managed to stay on the straight and narrow.
A little about me: I am 45 married for the past 25 years and have one son aged 24 who is the apple of my eye. He graduated for university 18 months ago with a first class degree and now works in the city as a business analyst. He is happy and settled and I need to find my own path now as my life and my husbands life has been our son.
We have a little dog too who is aged 11. So it is really quiet in the Budgie house. My Dh is currently suffering very badly with depression and as a result I too feel very out of sorts.
So here we are in 2010 a new decade and I have decided to take action and start my quest to be a better me.
I have gained over a stone in weight  I know this is after I joined weight watchers and got to my goal weight. As I have previously said I am a member of the AF thread and I am currently on the 365 day challenge not to have any alcohol at all. (I did the first 6 months last year but then started to drink again in June so it all went a bit pear shaped so to speak).
So my quest is as follows:
1 - No alcohol
2 - Lose Weight
3 - Do some volunteer work (Not sure what yet need to research more)
4 - Be happier and more content
5 - All in all to be a better me
So thats it really if you want to pop by and say Hi then please do so. If not I shall just ramble on, by myself. If you know me from the af thread then you will know I have a reputation for long posts :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
So God Bless and I hope you all achieve what you desire in 2010
Hugs Budgie xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I think anything that helps keep you focused & motivated is a good thing :T
But don't forget that you are pretty fabulous anyway & deserve a pampering treat from time to time too@ LBM = £15,872.65, now £10,819.82AF Jan = 7/? Feb = 5/14 Mar = 14/20 Apr = 6/14 May = 2/14 June 2/14 July 0/TF Aug 1/TFv Sept 6/TF Oct 4/7"NEVER DOUBT YOUR OWN QUALITY"0 -

I always said what a caring bear you are
But yes I need to keep focused and I really need to achieve the 365, well I only have 360 days to go now
That JO just look what she's gotten me into now, (I mean that in the nicest way of course as she is fab too)
Gosh I shall be popping here and popping there my little Budgie head will be in a spin. (Hope I don't fall off me perch )

Just thought I would add that I am a massive Only Fools and Horses fan
I love most music: back in the day it was Squeeze now I like Kings of Leon, U2, Blues, Bon Jovi etc the list goes on. Not much for dance though
I also watch the soaps
Support Chelsea, well that is by default as my Ds does and I am a big F1 fan.
So in my aim to be a better me I thought I would start with tomorrow and making a small list.
1 - Sort wardrobe and bedroom. (The wardrobe is a large one)
2 - Go for a nice walk.
3 - Check online banking
4 - See what shopping is required and use up Christmas surplus or give away.
5 - Plan healthy meals for next week.
Oh and I also lurk on the Christmas Moneysaving thread formerly the Special Occasions thread. I have had some fab ideas from there and have done hampers last Christmas and this one too.
So thats it really the aim is to stay focused and try and make this year a much better year.
I hope my Dh can get better and get back into work, my job is far from secure so that is an added worry. One good thing though when he does get back into work I shall certainly aim to save money.
The past year and a half has taught me to be more careful and mindful of what I spend. We paid for our son to go through university using our savings etc, just as he graduated my Dh lost his job. So I feel that now is our time and I just want to start living a more fulfilling life and hopefully not worry as much.
That along with not sleeping is my biggest problem, I do feel so stressed at the moment and I shall have to improve this as I am on medication for high blood pressure.
Sorry to ramble on, just getting a few things down. If you would like to know anything feel free to ask.

Hi Budgie

Hi Beanie,
Thankyou for dropping by, re: volunteering I am not sure but I have just taken a positive step and just registered with Do it org. There is a local mental health drop in centre close to where I live so I have just sent them an enquiry for more information as they are looking for a support worker.
I have felt for sometime now that I could use the skills I have to do some good, many people tell me what a good listener I am and how caring also.
So in my aim to be a better me, I aim to give more back. I am still relative young and as my son is now settled I need to improve my own life.
As we all know this is just not in the material sense but enriching your life in other ways too.
There is a much better person inside of me and now is the time to bring her out so to speak
I hope you get the gist of that
Btw do you do any volunteering yourself?
Thankyou again and I hope 2010 is a good year for you too.
