Phatbear, the download you link to says: "The following items are forbidden in hand
baggage....Razor blades." I dare say the Department of Transport guidance who quote is the best, but it doesn't help when the authorities muddy the waters.

Thats true you cant take razor blades airside, and i never stated otherwise, however you can take a disposable razor and or a razor cartridge airside without any problems.

Sure there is going to be the odd security muppet who dont know the rules and will try and take items off you because its easier for them to take your items than expose their lack of knowledge.

You need to understand that I have to subject myself to these rules on every working day and these same rules that allow me to take weaponary airside, ie knives/guns etc wont allow me to take a bottle of coke into my office.
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right
  • Be very careful - just because the UK might allow it, doesn't mean foreign airports will.
    From Poland...with love.

    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

Or the other way round, no need for the silly plastic bags at Alicante Airport.

I had a Bic plastic razor taken off me at Manchester a couple of years ago.
    It just seems random.

It is random. It was Manchester where I bought Bic razor's airside!
Here I go again on my own....

This is all stupid - if you can buy a multi-pack of razors in Boots airside, I would live to see an airport explain why a passenger cannot include it in their hand luggage.

    Hey everyone
Ive been trying to figure this question out myself. I cannot understand the guidance on ryanairs website. As an example, does anyone know if I can take a gillette fusion razor stick plus the razor cartidges? They use jargon in the rules, which I cannot interpret-can anyone clarify?
    Many thanks

Yes you can. It's basically a safety razor.

Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

The only type of razor blades you can't bring in hand luggage is the old fashioned single loose razor blades. Any razors you can buy in the supermarket/boots/other similar shop are fine, as the blades are pretty small and enclosed in a "frame". Whether it's a Bic, Gilette, Mach, Venus - it doesn't matter. You can bring it.

There's no point in calling the airline as they don't make the rules about what you can bring through security. DfT (Department for Transport) makes the rules, so it's best to check their website or if still in doubt, check the official website of the airport you're flying from. It'll be a waste of money to call the airline, especially the ones with premium rate numbers.

I go through airport security every day at work (sometimes more than once) and having done so for quite some time, I'm pretty clued up on the rules. For the person talking about Manchester airport, they're a law unto themselves sometimes, unfortunately. They're getting better though, as they've had so many complaints.
