Ryanair - flying with a shaving razor

Hi

Is this allowed if taking hand luggage only?

Thanks in advance

  • I don't think so. Small blades have been used as weapons in terror attacks. Alternatives are to take an electric shaver or buy blades at your destination. Or, if you are travelling with others and one has booked a suitcase for the hold, ask them to carry it for you.

Wrong on both accounts show me one time where a razor balde has been used as a weapon in a terror attack? why would you bother when you could buy a bottle of booze at the duty free and use that as a far better weapon.

This is from the DFT's rules

"Only razors where the blade is fully and permanently enclosed and razor
cartridges are allowed in hand baggage"

This is a link for the download of the security info, it says stansted but it relates to all DFT operated airports.

    http://www.stanstedairport.com/assets/B2CPortal/Wrapped%20Static%20Files/Security_guidelines_sept07.pdf

So in other words you can take a disposable razor with you on your holidays.

And to the OP such rules have got nothing to do with the airline you are flying with its the rules of the airport you need to worry about.

I would think so as you can buy disposable razors in the departure lounge. When we went on holiday last year I remembered I hadn't packed any razors on the way to the airport, but was able to buy Bic Soleil razors in Boots airside.
Here I go again on my own....

  • Phatbear, the download you link to says: "The following items are forbidden in hand
baggage....Razor blades." I dare say the Department of Transport guidance who quote is the best, but it doesn't help when the authorities muddy the waters.

Nobody can give a 100% answer because it is clear that airport security make up their own rules, different airports, different criteria.

I had a Bic plastic razor taken off me at Manchester a couple of years ago.
    It just seems random.
