Keeping existing number with new provider

I have currently got a Orange contract phone and have today signed up with T-Mobile for a contract with them. I want to keep my phone number that I've had with Orange and so I believe I need to ring Orange and ask them for the PAC to give to T-Mobile? Problem is (or might be...) that my contract with Orange doesn't run out until 31 March this year. I presume then, I'm obliged to pay the monthly charge until then  also would I be able to have the number transferred over to T-Mobile before the contract with Orange ends

If I terminate the Orange contract early do I incur a penalty?

I've searched the website and can't find anything on there about terminating contracts  (unless I'm not looking properly!). I don't want to ring them and get into a lengthy conversation with the Retention Dept :rotfl:

Any advice gratefully received :)

As far as i know you would need to pay the rest of your contract off (months left X monthly contract cost) and orange will cancel your contract for you, you need to get your pac code and transfer this on your new provider within 28 days of getting your new contract, or else you wont be able to keep your existing number.

You must have got a good deal from t-mobile, a word of caution though their coverage is not good in all areas, so id suggest trying it out before you cxl orange contract. im sure youd already thought of this.

Far as I know T-Mobile allow a port in at any time.

Regarding coverage, I changed to them around 6 months ago from a long time with o2. Coverage wise I find them a lot better than Orange where I use them most (I still have a work phone on Orange) and their 3G coverage is miles ahead of o2's (though that's not saying much!)

It's definitely a case of check where it works for you, rather than just dismissing the network as very poor. Furthermore I never saw a single network busy this year so they are obviously still putting some investment in to it.

Thanks for your responses. Im hoping coverage will be okay as my daughter uses her T-Mobile phone everywhere in the house no problems but I have to practically hang out of the window to use my Orange phone! This is my main reason for changing networks.
