Holiday Flight with Easyjet potential problems

I have booked 2 adults and 2 children to go to Majorca with EasyJet in July.

I have read the information and it says children accompanied by Adults do not need photographic ID. I just wanted to cover myself as my 10 year old son is still on my Passport! Has anyone had any problems with this?

Also it says that each passenger is allowed 20 Kg of luggage each. Do Easyjet accept large suitcases, We have one that tends to weigh around 25 - 30kg when full! or would it be better to get two smaller ones. I know Ryanair now have some stipulations regarding luggage!

Thanks for any re-assurance!

Your 10 year old needs his own passport ...I am pretty sure he will need it when you get to Majorca and when you try to re enter the UK.
I have a feeling (might be wrong) but that is EJ's policy for internal flights.
Check with the passport agency to be sure
If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel

I think you might be right, I've just re-read the information. Better be safe than sorry! Its a bit of a pain! The Passport office is still happy for him to be on my passport!

    Thanks

What if my child is already on my passport?

Before October 1998 many children were included on adult passports. If your child is on your passport they can continue to travel with you in this way until:
    • they reach 16 and need to apply for their own adult passport or
    • the passport on which they are included runs out or
    • they are issued with their own passport or
    • the passport on which they are included is sent back to us to be changed in some way.

  • If your passport is still valid then it will be fine. USA will not allow "old" passports with accompanying children on them but the EU will. These type of passports are quite unusual now as most have expired as children have not been added to parents passports or about the last six years. That said ds made me get him his own when he found out that his little cousin had his own. He said that he was the only 8 year old not to have his own! I sent him away with my parents so he had to have his own otherwise I would have continued to be deaf. The other thing to bear in mind is if you had to stay in Spain for any reason then he would have to stay with you. If he has his own you do have more flexibility. Hope this helps.

Perhaps a phone call to Easyjet, might be worth a try, as I don't really want to get him a passport if I don't have to! (more expense). I just know from watching the Airline programme with Easyjet, we are asking for trouble if we don't abide by their rules to the letter!

  • The photographic ID is required for travel within the UK when you do not need a passport,ie Scotland or Northern Ireland ie domestic flights not International.

    Its all so confusing!

However the Passport Office information I quoted above is also repeated on the Easyjet website. So might be OK!

    Passports for children

With effect from 5 October 1998:

All children, including newborn babies, who are not already included on a valid British passport require their own valid passport for travel abroad.

children who were included on a passport BEFORE 5 October 1998:

Children who are already included on a valid passport may continue to travel with the passport holder until whichever of the following occurs first:

the child reaches the age of 16
the passport on which the child is included expires
the passport on which the child is included is replaced or an amendment to it requires the issue of a new passport

Children aged 16 or over must have their own individual passport, even if the child is due to have their 16th birthday while abroad.

Incidently, my passport still has over 2 years to run, so I must have one of the last few that have children included!

  • You have got one of the last but will your DS still be willing to be included on yours when he is 12+!
