    I expect that by 2050 almost all cars will be sporting 'vanity plates' anyway given the local trends ;)

    I don't think the way cars are built now the '51 reg ones will have survived so they'll be able to start again. Unless the government changes to quarterly plate changes to help the poor motor industry.
    Also if we are led to believe the GREEN people, there will be no planet left.

    currently plates are two letters, two numbers followed by three letters

    from 2050 they can do the relatively simple task of switching the two letters and number around i.e

    51 AB ABC

    that would give another 50 years of usage.

    p.s. that kind of number plate format would be a dream for private plates fans!

    more likely to go from AB 10 ABC to ABC 10 AB - just as ABC 100Y became Y100 ABC

    as for people that wonder what will happen in september - if you don't know how it works after 10 years then you will never know.
