Driving test changes in 2010

Given how slowly it crawls to 60MPH you'd be ragging it to death trying to join a busy motorway - hardly driving it properly is it? (given that mechanical sympathy is also an aspect of driving that you should consider)
So you are implying that no HGV can be driven safely?
They cannot get up to 60 MPH very quickly, but are used safely day in, day out.
A good driver adjusts to the capability of the vehicle being driven.0 -

Other drivers expect a HGV to join a motorway slowly and will adjust their position / speed accordingly - less people will expect a Corsa to join a motorway at 30 and take days to get to 60. Yes you should give way on a slip road if necessary however joining a motorway at 0-10mph with a car that's going to take 17s to get to 60 if you rag the hell out of it in every gear isn't exactly wise either.
IMO there is no need for that car to be in the product lineup and manufacturers produce them solely for marketing purposes ("the new Vauxhall Corsa - from £x thousand less than one you'll actually want to drive")0 -
I wish the test includes a secton on how to join the motorway or dual road in the proper manner and not barging in expecting people to move over for you. (and yes I am a HGV driver and it bloody pees me off when you get old doris or BMW idoit not looking in their mirrors or behind them to see that I am coming towards them on the limiter and you panic cus you can not adjust your speed on the slip roads to match the traffic on the main road!)
Another solution to the age limit to engine ratio is to add speed limiters or rev limiters to the car like we got in the waggons. So you can still get the 2 litre 150bhp car - just that its limited to a certain speed or rev range. When car goes into MOT or on a annirversy of your past date then some limits can ben increased/removed as yours driving experience improves. It's hard to find the balance when you are love.
You're lost in the middle cause you have to decide between mind & heart.
Heart is the engine of your body but brain is the engine of life.

If you, or anyone else cannot join a motorway safely in any type of allowable vehicle, then you should consider additional driving lessons.0

Not far more powerful than a 10 year old one using exactly the same engine but weighing 200kg less, though.
The 1.0 Corsa D is downright dangerous IMHO - and there are similar cars out there from other manufacturers.
most vauxhalls have a totally different engine to 10 years ago, you'll find your getting an extra 15bhp from the 1.0 and better fuel economy.
You dont need to rag it nor does it take an age to get it up to 70
To say its dangerous is just rubbish, its designed to be a small around the town car it does that job perfectly, its not designed to 110 up the motorway but it will sit comfortably at 70 i personally have driven the corsa 1.0 as a courtesy car up the motorway doing over 400 miles in one and it went really well, maybe you should learn to use the gears and move up to 5th once at a reasonable speed, !!!Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

Just like the 70MPH limits some companies put on their fleets..... definitely a better idea although where do you set the limit?0 -

The existing driving test does include this, where such types of roads are available to the local test centre.0 -

the limiter is a good idea and i can see something like that being introduced to new cars, so in 10 years it will be the norm, but for now it would be a very expensive option for everyone to have one fitted as it would need to be done as a factory setting really, but if new cars rolled off the line now with it fitted but just not used it would then be inplace for if and when they decided to do itEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

thats the problem that whay i suggest it should be either practical if it available or simulation, i.e in a driving simEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
