Failed Standing Orders

I wasn't sure if this was the best place for my post so please move if not. Thank you.
I was just double checking my account and 2 of my standing orders seem to have failed? There are funds in the account, they are not newly created, have been in place months, one for years. One pays my rent and they are both due out on the first of each month.
All my direct debits have come out but are dated 4 Jan (which I know is for the next working day).
Should I wait to see if my standing orders also come out on the 4 Jan (but they are not yet listed on my statement) or should I contact the back (and my landlord!!)?
Also - is there any recourse on standing orders as I expect to get in trouble with my landlord for not paying my rent on time and this is beyond my control.
Thanks in advance.

Who do you bank with?
Who does your landlord bank with?0 -
I'm with Barclays and Landlord is with Natwest. So faster payments apply and he goes in within 4 hours. (Normally!)
Obviously I've built in a little buffer so its probably not as bad as it could be, still time to save but I'm just not sure how to bump start the order.
When I check out my details today it says its next due on 1/1/2010.0 -

I don't know the Barclays SO system but as long as it doesn't say 1/2/2010 for the next payment then I would be pretty confident that when you logon on Monday (or even Sunday if they do this with Monday's date) you will find the SOs have been actioned.
(I also think the DDs are showing - with the 4 Jan date - because they are not initiated by Barclays.)0 -

Standing orders are only processed on working days. If the day they falls on is not a working day, they are paid on the next working day. As the 1st was a Bank Holiday, and the 2nd and 3rd are a weekend, your standing orders dated for the 1st will be paid on the 4th.0 -
I'm with Halifax, and my one standing order that goes out on the 1st has been delayed until the 4th (says so on the "next payment date") so I am guessing this is the same for all banks due to the bank holidays/weekend over this period. I would only worry if it hasn't gone out on Monday.
HTH.

Brilliant. Thanks for putting my mind at rest. I'll doubt check tomorrow and Monday. I just assumed they'd still appear on my status 'queued' up to leave on 4 Jan. All good. Thank you all.0

I've got 3 x SOs set up on the 1st with Barclays. The one for £250 went through as a FP, as expected, on the 1st and was credited to the recipient within minutes. The 2 for £500 and £255 didn't. I can only assume that Barclays currently have a £250 limit on SOs, so that they can make interest on those over this limit till the 4th. Check on Mon and Tue, as I will be doing.0

One of mine is for £75 going to Halifax (not the rent unfortunately!!) and the other is over £250 going to Natwest. I don't think Halifax participate in faster payments so maybe thats why its not sent yet. All very confusing but I'll definately be watching this one.0

Yes they do.
But as post #5 correctly identifies - SOs only work on Bank working days - yesterday was not a working day, nor is today and nor is tomorrow ...... they will go overnight Sunday and be dated the 4th. Halifax SOs go via FP ....... but they still only activate on working days.
The exception (hence why I suspect you were asked who your landlord is with) is if the SO is to another Halifax account ..... it's then treated as an internal transfer. And they work every day of the year.
(Apologies - I wrote that as though you were with Halifax, just realised the error ..... but the basic gist is right. It's more correct than post #8 which can't be right .. unless the £250 was internal!)If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Useful stuff thanks. Its quite shocking that I don't know any of this having had a bank account for more years than I'd care to remember!
Still find it strange that one Barclays user had a standing order appear on statement dated 1 Jan and some not and mine not. We'll have to see what happens Monday!0
