expensive for a handbag though isnt it? I mean you cant eat it...so do people need a £80 handbag

While I admire your belief that people should only buy what they need (and only to eat it seems) then this forum would be dead. As an aside if you do choose to eat it (and as it is animal product you probably could) will last about 4-12 hours before you lose it...whereas if you use it for it's intended use it will last 5 years at least...sounds like a bargain to me.

If you look at it on a 'price per use' basis, this bag is much better value than a cheapy.

    Radley £80 lasting five years = 80.00/ (5*365) = 4p per day
    Cheap bag £20 lasting six months = 20.00/ 182.5 = 11p per day
    Gone ... or have I?

Wouldn't disagree on the aesthetics of a quality bag............ but my 'cheap' bags last for ages too (and stay looking good!).....I like a bit of variety!!

The site is called "Money Saving Expert" nowhere here does it state you have to be starving and penniless to use it.

Off topic slightly....but I'm looking for a lovely quality leather hand/shoulder bag, I'm not fussed about Radley ones and wondered if anyone can recommend any good brands.
Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid doing altogether.:D

Well, it does say reduced to clear so maybe they are getting rid of some stock that other places are keeping.
    Good find.

I quite like this, but only 2 left.
Fiorelli Imogen Large Shopper Handbag, Tan

    Reduced to Clear
    Product code - 40596831
    stock: 2

    Was £55 Now £38

I quite liked that one as well - but it's plastic and I really would not spend even £38 on a bit of cheapo plastic tat which has been inflated by adding a "designer" tag!

I can well understand spending more on a decent quality leather one (although anyone willing to spend £650 must need their head examined:o) but plastic will be carp bunged together in a third World country no matter who claims to have "designed" it:rolleyes:

I don't believe one needs to be starving and "worthy" to come to MSE - but it would be lovely to see that people were beginning to understand the total cons that have been perpetrated by the marketing guys in the last 20 years of so and decided to use some common sense instead of wasting money to "impress".

I always buy reasonably good quality bags, made of leather, and have three at the moment which are around 11 to 12 years old, and another which is over 20 years old. None of them have EVER cost such ridiculous sums and despite the fact that I could well afford to waste that sort of money I would not allow myself to be conned in such a way at all!

If I saw a "made in GB" label on it - I might be persuaded to pay a little more! If it is European made (and I mean continental Europe not Eastern Europe) then I also might pay a little more for it because it has probably been made in more ethical factories! You do have to look for smaller labels inside a lot of the time though - they will craftily give it an Italian designer label and then a "made in Korea" tucked away somewhere;)

I have a lovely dark brown leather one that is a good seven or eight years old now that says "Lloyd Baker" (means nothing to me:o) that I bought from one of the TV bid channels (for around £20:D) and which still looks as good as new (with the occasional wipe down and a bit of polish) despite a lot of use.

I also have a black one which my mother bought me many moons ago which says "Everest" - and which is at least 10 years old. This cost around £35.00 and was a Christmas present from her from a local shop. It is "made in India" but tbh has lasted extremely well with no problems with straps coming off or breaking and no hassle with any of the zips which are all still working. Again - loads of use and comes up like new with a wash and a bit of polish:D
