Thanks Custardy, I have been looking at various graphics cards and some of these are capable of reproducing HD. My question was also based on the trend towards HD networking within home and frankly the more I think it becomes more confusing.

If the next generation pc is going to be different then may be we should know a bit about it. If buying somethimg new, it is good to know the options availabe.

i stream HD content over my network too ;)
i would say you definatly need a gigabit ethernet on your PC/router but mine isnt high spec

    what i have is PC>gigabit router>PS3/360>1080p screen
this is all connected via ethernet cable so no wifi for me
i use PS3 media server running on the PC to stream all my media via the PS3 to the screen

The more I read, the more I'm confused. Not by the content of people's responses, but by what exactly the OP is asking. Can someone please clarify I'm following this properly? lol

The original question was posed in very badly written terms, and several (perfectly adequate and accurate) answers were given. Still the OP asks away, claiming to be misunderstood. Several more (accurate and acceptable) answers are given. Still the OP isn't happy.

If you're not confused following this yet, then add to that the fact that first it was for his/her "son" who "is an animator", and now it appears it's not - it's for the OP themselves who wants to watch HD movies on his PC?

Does anybody have the foggiest idea what the OP is asking? because I certainly don't ;)

Am viewing this site "in HD" via a HDMI output from the laptop to his TV round a mates... still no clearer I'm afraid. Perhaps it's not HD that's required, but 3D. Now, where's my green & red specs..?

    Hello PeteG,
I never said that the answers were not acceptable, I thanked and was happy with all the answers, it came down to what graphics card would be better. Perhaps it does not matter as Custardy explained but then some others suggested that it may matter.

So why the silly story about a son? There's something not quite right with you.

Theres a lot more to it than a HD monitor/tv and a graphics card. At the basic level youd need a powerful PSU (Power Supply Unit) just to drive the graphics card. Youd need a decent motherboard to accept said graphics card etc etc

If the machine is for pro use, any old HD monitor may not do either, most cheap ones have TN panels that are not good enough in colour rendition, so will likely need one with a S-IPS, or a PVA type panel, bear in mind that the old 21" monster CRT displays were and and some still are better than many LCD's for graphic and video work. Some fragmeisters will not use an LCD for gaming still either because of response times and input lag.
