Short of Cameron being found in Soho in a short skirt propositioning journalists whilst self-injecting heroin, I don't think they're going to lose the next election.Nothing is foolproof, as fools are so ingenious!0 -
How about "rampant inflation" as a prediction?
That would soon devalue the National Debt.
And it's not like it hasn't happened before...........:eek:Nothing is foolproof, as fools are so ingenious!0 -

Many are happy to have a job let alone start asking for massive pay rises. I don't think the unions are as powerful as they once were.Nothing is foolproof, as fools are so ingenious!0

Dont get me wrong, i personally would never vote Labour again, yet could never bring myself to vote Tory and feel the Lib-Dems are a wasted vote, but i feel that just call me Dave is not doing a very good job of the prolonged election campaign, it might have been a good idea once to keep quiet and allow the Labour party to hang itself, but patently its not working now, with the latest poll showing Labour up, and the Tories flat (albeit still with a 10 point lead) yet the "bribes" will work, especially as the Tories are talking of having to make savage cuts in public spending, we all want more without having to pay for it, and Labour seem to be promising prosperity, whilst the Tories seem to be talking of austerity, yes i think many of the working population will switch alleigance, but others who have seen their lifestyle continue serenely untouched by the recession, with index linked increases in benefits, rising housing costs paid for by the government etc will vote Labour.Thankyou Sir Alex for 26 years0

jojo1964 - I have to say that I fit into that category. Traditionally a Tory voter I thought I'd never see the day when I'd vote Labour. But since Tony Blair became prime minister I haven't voted. I was quite content with the way things were going (except the nanny state which I can't abide!) and didn't really care whether Labour or Conservative won the next election. There was no real difference between the two!
Now I think I *might* be tempted to actually vote Labour. Although I will say that I haven't paid enough attention to politics and really do need to find out more before making a final decision. I expect that a lot of traditional Tory voters are in a similar position. Rightly or wrongly Labour might now be seen as a 'softer' version of the Tories. And when times are tough I think a lot of people prefer to see a safety net in place for those that are struggling.
And yes, what about the traditional Labour voters? Wouldn't voting Tory be a step too far? And as you say, Lib-dem is traditionally a wasted vote - maybe not this time?
I actually very much liked Maggie Thatcher. If the Tories had someone like her at the helm it would be a different story!0 -
I despised Thatcher, but admired her for her "not for turning" attitude, and yes if she, or somebody like her, was leading the Tories, i think we would already have a Tory government.Thankyou Sir Alex for 26 years0

Agreed. As I said, I need to learn more as I've not shown much interest in politics for a good few years now, but...
My uninformed opinion is that Labour have actually done well to get us through a World recession relatively unscathed (so far). A year ago people were predicting disaster but we seem to be trundling along quite well. So the Labour government were at least a step ahead of the profits of doom.
Is there reason to think that the Tories can do better? (Genuine question).0 -

Trundling along, yes, but at what cost?, regardless of who gets in, we are facing 20 years (Darlings prediction) of tough times, so for many in their 50s and 60s is the choice taxed to the hilt for the rest of their lives by voting tory, or having an im alright jack attitude, and letting future generations pay and voting Labour.Thankyou Sir Alex for 26 years0
