Thanks Nikki - I think that merging with your thread coincided with the start of a bit of a heated debate (as Mrs Merton would say) on nutrition and value and thrift and it all got a bit messy

I am sorry as it seems that you lost your thread which was equally as valid as mine. I am not sure the board guides covered themselves with glory on this one, but as we're so grateful for their hard work in keeping us in order I think acceptance and looking forward is the best course of action.

Perhaps you could start yours up again with a different name :rolleyes:

It goes without saying that your daughter is far more important to you than the opinions on a thread, in a public forum, made by people you are most unlikely to meet or even know the real identity of ;) Don't let their negativity or lack of knowledge of your personal circumstances get you down. You do not have to justify yourself to faceless, nameless people on a website.

Keep doing what works for you. If you know, and are confident, that what you are doing is right for you and your daughter, you shouldn't care or give it any importance.

Equally, writing on a page is extremely impersonal in so far as you can not know for certain the motivation of the poster. Maybe they believed they were being helpful in highlighting what they perceived as deficiencies in your meal plans; maybe they were mocking you; perhaps they feel they own experiences gave them a certain knowledge they may even believe you may have lacked? Who knows? I don't!! But I do know this: never give importance to the opinions of those who are not "important" ;)

We're all entitled to our own opinions, of course; but just because someone vocalises theirs, and is counter to your own, doesn't make it right or law or any more important that what you decide to give it ;)

Keep posting your ideas and that way, others are free to either take your inspiration or leave it - just as you are free to do with others ideas. But don't let others grind you down, unless they are very important people in your world! :)

I think the idea was that the two of you could support each other in your challenges - which would make good reading for those of us (like me) who know they wouldn't be able to do this but will be "supporting on the sidelines!"

Good luck to the both of you :D

So back to the important stuff. Probably a healthier selection but it was all stuff in the fridge/cupboards anyway.

    Today's Summary - 18/18 meals 50p or under:
    Summary Total - 51/54 = 92% = 5949 meals to go

Breakfast: 6 lots of cereals + milk. All under 50p (6/6)
    Lunch: 50p or under (6/6)
    OP & OH & DS1 & DS2 : 1/2 pack carrot & coriander soup (NCG special offer) 50p each
    DD1 & DD2 : Double Quick Double (see below) for 2 : IN total 2 Eggs 40p, 4 Toast 10p, Lidl Beans 29p, Grated Cheese 20p (40g @ £5a kilo) = 99p for 2
    Supper: 50p or under (6/6)
    DD1, DD2, DS2 : 1/2 pack Lidl Spinach & Ricotta Tortellini 67p a pack = 33p
    OP, OH, DS1 : Baked Potatoes (700g @ 45p for 2.5 Kilo = 15p, Beans 29p, 100g Lidl reduced calorie coleslaw (59pfor 500g) = 12p, Grated Cheese 20p : 76p for 3

    ===========Recipe of the day ===========
'Double Quick Double' from one of the threads pink-winged posted on page 1

Double egg (poached, fried, scrambled) on top of two rounds of toast, served with one third tin of value baked beans - you can probably get away with a thin slice of mature cheddar .

... to get all your colours(if buying all from Asda at the moment):

tomato 1/5th of can 6.6p still the same
    80g onion 4p 3.12p
    raisins 20g- 2.4p 2.6p
    20g marrowfat peas 2.56p
    still the same
    80g sweetcorn-8.5p 7.6p

total 24.06p to eat all your colours in a day :money:

revised total 22.48p per person per day

Can you exchange the raisins for something else? They're not the best idea to eat every day due to the high sugar amount, particularly for children's teeth!

As for portion sizes - aren't these on the small side? I was always taught that a portion of fruit or vegetables should be a handful - and I always obey this in day to day life. 20g of peas just wouldn't come anywhere near. Maybe I'm just a gluttonous pig when it comes to fruit and vegetables, but well... :)

Not really. It's better than yesterday, but not by much...

This is really not healthy at all. Value baked beans (in fact, all baked beans) are likely to have preservatives and other nasties within - the nutritional value is close to nothing, particularly with the tomato sauce as well. Likewise with the bread - British bread is pumped full of preservatives and isn't really a wise choice to eat on a daily basis. Adding cheese is just asking for trouble.
    From Poland...with love.

The books are sitting just there on the floor.

omg i just had to say how surprised i was at the amount of food police on here, now i know its about money saving and everyone has there standards but really dont we get told enough about what to eat, how many hours we should sleep, etc etc if we didnt live in such a bad nanny state you could deal with these ignorant and rude comments from random and odd posters who think it is within their right to push upon people their views.

so firstly POLISHBIG, that list was just an example and secondly i do hope you are in someway qualified to be forcing you opinions on people about what they feed their families.

also in the hope of pushing you over the edge and into a nervous break down over what i feed my family my DD quite happily consumed the following -

breakfast - pre sliced white bread and butter and tea
lunch - oven chips and 3 cherry tomatoes with squash
dinner - macroni cheese with squash

oh and copious amount of biscuits and the likes inbetween

look see no where near the 5 a day but it doesnt mean this is what she will eat everyday actually she was lucky today as she was up nannys and nanny doesnt cook very well oh and guess what my daughter is the pickiest eater in the world see my post threads if you please so maybe you should find out details first as to the persons circumstances before lecturing you GARBAGE only over the place.

well done mark i think your doing well keep up and sorry nikki you felt you had to delete your post but glad you started a new one as i will definately be picky up some tips on the way
