Would like to listen to my tv at night with headphones (keep misses happy).
The TV is an LG PQ6000 and as far as I can see only has optical out for sound, do I really have to add a surround system with a headphone socket or is there a cheaper option?
Thank you.

The TV spec's imply that the TV is putting out its video (which means audio too) on its scart sockets (which one depends on from what source the TV is using so maybe some trial and error needed?. Anyway a scart lead is a crossover so it is possible for it to be an output as well as an input at the same time.
Most cordless headphones I have bought come with an adapter so the transmitter can be connected to a scart source. I suspect this is what LG intended. Borrow a set (or buy from a retailer its easy to get refund) and try a set, I strongly suspect it will work.0 -
Thanks for help, but sure using a scart socket would mean selecting this on the the tv as its output like a DVD player etc.
I think I will have to pay the shop a visit where I got the TV from.

Nope don't think so, on a TV you can select a scart as an input (ie what external source to show on screen), what I am saying is that their are audio input and output pins on a scart and there is no reason not to think the TV is not putting its sound out on the scarts output pins all the time, whether selected or not (selection just applies to which scart the TV listens to, inputs).
At the very least I would try some carefully and if it doesn't work take it back to the shop for refund.0 -

It may well be outputting as you say, BUT, it will also be outputting to the tv,s built in speakers so wearing headphones would be a bit of a waste.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -

I don't think the volume control on a TV affects scarts which should remain at line level, the volume control is for the TV's amplifier so he could just turn the TV volume down!0 -
Good try! but that gadget is just to take audio out to an amplifier, the levels coming out a scart are not strong enough to directly drive a set of headphones. This is why I suggested cordless as the transmitter will amplify the signal as well.0 -
They are sometimes a bit hard to find for a decent price (I got mine for £50) but you could get a pair of sharkoon x-tatic 5.1 or similiar headphones, the receiver they have takes an optical input. Extra info here0

Maybe something like this is what you're looking for?Try saying "I have under-a-pound in my wallet" and listen to people react!0

the TV has the option to switch of the speakers.
Will look at the links above, cheers.Google gives you answers use it.........0
