Right went and saw a housing officer today at the council as others have stated it is a standard possession order they sent me, and they have there rights, they have not done anything wrong, but she said neither have I!

Housing Officer was a nice lady, but def not encoraging me to the council route, even said to me it wouldnt be far housing you before someone else that has been on the list for year, far enough, and she said they would give me the deposit, even give 2 months rent upfront if needed until HB comes through again, tho I did tell her I was getting £30 week HB whilst my tax creds are being worked out, which I said will roughly be about £50 week, so that will put me over the HB threshold, so I wont get it, so will you still pay the deposit and first few months? She just went hmmm!

I stated if I go the private route I will be paying £500-550 for a place, with no HB and atm my whole take home for the week with all benefits ect will be £250, thats if I have that right!!!

Ive also got a financial situation going on that i am trying to keep on the back burner, because i'll lose the plot if I put that on my plate as well as everyhting else!!!
I owe roughly 26k and cant pay it back im dealing with it thro CAB, paying £1 atm until this mess gets sorted, but there is not enough £ to go around, I was stupid, ex was in money trouble, didnt pay the rent/morgage on hids place, I took out large loan in my name, to pay his off, im not stuck with it, I paid the bills with CC ect, the rest they say is history.
CAB have mentioned going bankrupt, so again that will put spanner in works as standard lettings contract states if you go bankrupt they can give you notice!

I think you should stick with the council house route.

Yes, they will help pay for a private place - because its their job not to get you "on their books".

Plus, If you do go bankrupt, its not a problem with a council place.

Ignore her comments about other people on the list - who cares about them? Its you and your family thats important. If you are allocated more points than someone who has been on the list longer than you (if thats the way the system works in your area) then that is hardly your fault is it?

But you are right with if you go private you can pick and chose (if landlords in your area take people on housing benefit). In our area (SLOUGH) you have to take the first place offered to you, or you get sent to the bottom of the list. But my friend in Chorley (lancs) was offered numerous places. It depends on the area you are in.

Definitely stick with the council route! They are definitely trying to NOT get another person on their books and to be honest I wouldn't be too amused if I were you :) Don't "put the debt on the back burner"... tell them about it and maybe suggest that you are possibly facing bankrupcy and therefor would have great trouble renting privately let alone meeting the costs of a private let...

You have paid your taxes, now when you need it they should help you and at least provide you with a roof over your head! :)

Eli, are you definately getting everything you are entitled to?

I'm no expert on these things but I'm sure you should get help with housing, working credits, child tax credits?

Check this website if you haven't already!

Did you ring Shelter?? You really need to talk to them. They won't be happy if the Council have said "it wouldnt be fair housing you before someone else that has been on the list for year" - you are in what's classed as Priority Need (see below off Shelter website)
    People responsible for dependent children
The council should consider you to be in priority need if you are responsible for dependent children who normally live with you (or would do if you had accommodation where you could all live together) and who are:

    under 16, or
under 19 and in full time education

The Council CANNOT fob you off - they HAVE to take responsibility once you are within 28 days of eviction. because of the above. It is a legal duty under the Housing Act 2002.

    Chin up chuck ;)

BTW, was that Housing or Homeless person you spoke to?

You need to speak to your Council's Homeless Section - Housing won't help you in your situation. Homeless will have the necessary clout to get something sorted & should have access to emergency accomodation & some of the houses that come up on both Council & local Housing Association lists.

I spoke to council again, until I have 28 days before I def have to leave property homeless section wont deal with me, so yes it was just the housing section!
Just phoned tax creds up to give them a kick explained what was going on so the man has sent off a urgent plea to who ever, so I shall chase that up in a week.
SS not sure whats going on with HB I put all my details in that site and then put in what TC it says I *should* get and it says I will get 28.00 HB, but going by the form i recieved from HB I will be over the threshold.
But until I get def on TC i cant really get a def answer out of HB and then cant work out if I can afford to rent private.
Bloody rollercoaster, and I never liked them!!!
But as I said im in trouble finacially owing £26k and not being able to give decent amounts to do management plan, so maybe bankrupt, so what private landlord is going to want me as a tenant!!!
Never mind eh, wheres the bacardi
