Hi everyone, happy new year!!!
I need ADVICE about what laptops I can get- for as cheap as possible
I don't want a netbook, or one thats too tiny and prefferebly a new one /one that isnt too old (If possible)
Has anyone got any useful links/sites where there are good laptops? Im not so tech-savvy so I need advice on what laptops are worth the pay and which ones aren't.
I'd probably end up getting ripped off if i went and searched for myself...I did do some search but to no avail.

You're 19 years old and should be funding your own. YOU ARE AN ADULT and if you can't afford one, you shouldn't be sponging off your parents to buy one - thats what CHILDREN do.
If you can't afford a new one, get a second hand one. £150-£200 will get you something that'll do what you need off Ebay - Thinkpads, Dell D6xx and HP NX range are built like a rock but are corporate so not the prettiest. Acer etc tend to be stuff that looks nice but falls to bits..
If you can't afford one, SAVE UP FOR ONE. You don't NEED one, the world will not come to an end if you don't have one. Learn this lesson now before you wish you had in the future.

I know I'm an adult, but it's not my fault that I can't afford it. I am saving up, but recent circumstances meant that most of the money I'd saved up was gone..so now I'm left broke and in urgent need of a laptop (For essays etc). My parents don't mind lending me money that I can repay pretty soon. Thanks anyway.0

Thanks for the lesson, but see: I have essays to submit and I don't get enough time on a computer that I have to share with others. I guess I could wait a bit but that would really affect the course I'm taking.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.0 -
I agree with the above.
£400 is a great laptop and way above what you need.
£300 Max is a more realistic figure.
Get a job, save up.
Toshiba are good and try haggling - It works even in the big stores.0 -
Hav a look at https://www.dmxdimension.co.uk for offers on Dell Laptops.
£330 will get you a 15" Inspiron with Windows 7 which shoudl do what you want. It won't play games though. Then f you need office you can get it cheaply through https://www.software4students.co.uk.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
Thanks BillScarab, the links are fantastic

Have a look on ebuyer they are pretty good and cheap.
I've had Toshiba laptops for years, they are amongst the most reliable as well.
I think you need to look at 120Gb Hard drive, 2GB Ram, 15.6 screen with hopefully Windows 7 or at least a free upgrade to it, I would think you could get a Toshiba from them for <£350 at this spec and delivered free.
Forget PC World, Comet they'll only try to sell you a massively expensive warranty on top.
Good Luck and happy hunting0 -

Just had a look on Ebuyer, 2 Toshiba laptops seem good at less than £400 :
1) 177455 1Gb Ram, 250Gb hard drive/ webcam /Windows 7 - £356.96
2) 177445 2Gb Ram, 250Gb hard drive/ webcam /Windows 7 - £377.94
If you go on their website and use the search box on the site and enter either 177455 or 177445 these will take you straight to the lappy's to have a look.
If it was my money I would buy the 2nd one.
BTW don't buy word processing software use open office which you can download for free on the net.
