I still don't understand how they can possibly be spending £120 pm even on the top Virgin package-which precise options do they have? Even with the most expensive broadband, TV and phone options, the total cost including line rental should be no more than £66pm. They must be making a huge no. of international and premium rate calls.

They make calls to 0844 at the moment which is costing a fortune

If they are using 0844 access numbers to make intl calls, they could probaly cut costs by useing 18185 via their 0808 Freephone Access Number.

Would it be possible to work out how many minutes they are using per month? Maybe one of the virgin talk packages would work better for them as this includes minutes to mobiles, international and 0845/0844 numbers.

A break down of what their money is going on would help in trying to cut it down.

  • If they purchased inclusive 01/02/03 minutes from a landline supplier they could use this service via the geographical access number at no extra cost to call USA/France .

What is often overlooked is that cable broadband is the ONLY reliable implementation of the technology - the system copes with it in its stride, whereas xDSL services is and will always be a kludge.

That said, we would;r be without VM BB. we have the phone service (because it is inclusive) but wouldn't dream of making calls, with BB all out outbound calls are through VoIP (Skype) and a £15 annual payment for inclusive UK calls for a YEAR. As for calling 0844 and other 'special' numbers, find out the equivalents using 'saynoto0870' or ask for a real number when you call. There is little point getting paid for BT line, to use a VOIP service as this is only providing a limited benefit and can With a cordless Skype phone to the PC, all outbound calls can be made where you want them, with no problem of having to leave the PC switched on 24x7 for incoming.

You must have a different VM BB than I have! My 20MB service slows down every evening to 5Mb or less - at some points I was getting 2Mb until I complained. Utilisiation problems I'm told.

How do you call from the landline using Voipdiscount??

They dont know how to use VOIP and would not trust it

You can register your landline number in the voipdiscount account. You then call the voipdiscount UK landline number from your landline and then proceed to dial US/France/Belgium number to make the call. The voipdiscount software will automatically know where you are calling from and charge your account accordingly.

You don't even have to tell them this is voip - this can be transparent to them. Just register the account in your name.

BTW I think the 18185 service is also a voip service.

I don't get any slow downs of BB service either. Very very occasionally. Maybe that's why i'm happy to stick with them. I live too far away from the exchage to get a decent speed with BT etc.

Worth getting to the bottom of why. This could be the root of the problem.
