    Nice to 'see' you NIM.

Fair point. Although in my defense I have about as much energy as a dead battery when I get home lately, so job hunting again.

I'll try to post more in future honest. I've just been sitting here next to Dinah "studying". No pazazz left in me today. Been working on a way to get our in street interviewers more technolocially advanced but they dont seem keen. But the incompitent muppet who reckons its his project (my brief is to work "WITH" not "FOR") has decided that all the decisions are his as he has been involved longer.

We sent out a survey to the interviewers to get their thoughts, rather than doing them on the phone with our currently hanging at a loose end telephone interviewers but I was ignored. The response rate was at 50% and I suggested phoning the non respondents, he said no, so I went over his head and got approval from the directors. We did the phone interviews and got up to a total response rate (from 3 hours of ringing people by the by) of 70%. Now he's off for 5 days and doesnt want me to do anything with the data. So I'm going to fully process it. Find out what people want doing with it and get it all sorted and finished before he comes back.

Am I a bad person? Keep in mind he is consistantly asking me for help with stuff he should have been able to do over a year ago. and I'm a fricking assistant on about 2/3's the industry standard for my job description, not to mind my skill level.
This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.

Sorry NIM but it's never a good idea to go over someone elses head. He is the senior & the time to bring it up would be supervision, about how you want more responsibility, where you think your ideas should/would have worked etc.

I'd agree with you if it was any other member of the team. But this guy is beyond useless and everyone knows it, including the directors. They fix his mistakes for him and have said if he hasnt learned by now he never will. I have a meeting with one of the directors on friday morning so I think I'll be mentioning this to him.

Good idea to mention to the directors that you feel you are not being given any room to progress and none of your ideas are being taken on board. It must be very frustrating. The meeting should give you the opportunity to show the directors how enthusiastic you are, and in turn they might delegate some decision making to you.

It's a tough one NIM, but I agree with CMD. Can you imagine how angry you'd be if you came back from a holiday to find that your partner had gone above you and completed your joint project without consulting you? By all means do some work on it but don't hand anything in without showing the other guy, you have been made partners for a reason. You might end up looking petty rather than industrious if you go over his head again. The best thing to do is ask for more responsibility without moaning about how useless the other guy is, show them that you are good on your own as opposed to being the next best thing in comparison to Mr Useless.

On an unrelated note, here's today's classy DOTD!

Anyone got someone at work who does the same job as you for more money and reckons they know it a LOT better and think they are incredible at it when in fact they are asking you for help constantly and spend all day wandering about doing F all? If so I have a few questions for you, like where is the best place to hide such a persons body?

River? North Sea? Under your bed (Dinah might not go for this)? Freezer?
  • Birdie I preferred your wedding DOTDs rather than these awful ones!!

Good point about the looking petty rather than industrious.
