I can see the campaign must be a bit annoying for those who are already doing most of the suggested things. I don't think you're really the target audience, though: it's aimed more at those of us who know full well we could be doing more, have good intentions but keep on most of the time doing s*d all! It's that little prod (along with a sense of community) that might get us off our a*ses.

It's also great for those of us who simply didn't really know what practical steps to take: I had never realised, for instance, what a difference three vegan days a week could make, or buying more second-hand clothes. But now I do!

(I don't think it's aimed at the people who don't give a monkey's, either. Just the ones at neither extreme.)

Personally I think that global warming is natural and that the politicians are seeing it as a good way of screwing us out of more taxes

Are you serious? Are there really people that think that? Reminds me of when Black Saturn said she didn't eat any fruit and veg at all because she thought the Five a Day campaign was just a way for the govt to make farmers richer.

Thank you Wigglebeena for alerting me to this campaign -I'd not heard anything about it till now.

You clearly have no proposals for alternative energy in your area :p We have a few plans in for wind developments, composting, energy from waste. I'm heavily involved in the "pro" campaigns (where I don my Penelope Penguin suit ;) ). You'd be amazed at the nonsense that is spouted in the local press, the latest from one of our MEPs (click on the link to his blog):mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

OMG PP, having read some of the rubbish that this guy spouts out on his blog and most unfortunately some of the comments in reply, I have suddenly lost any fancy for being "subversive" and feel even more that I need to do all I can to counterbalance the madness and stupidity of people like him!

Thank you for bringing me back to the straight and narrow :rotfl:!!!

Wigglebeena, I hope you realise that my rant was a bit tongue in cheek! I often comment with my friend (another stalwart of the green movement, long before the word green signified any more than a colour), how 20-30 years ago we were the weirdos, the hippies, the nutters etc, and now the world and his wife are trying to teach us "how to be green " , it would be funny if it wasn't so serious (but hey it is still funny to talk about it with friends ;)).
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Well economics will mean that because of the price of fuel I shall use the bus more and my car less.
    I cook from scratch anyway
rarely buy much in the way of clothes as I seem to have far too many that have accumulated over the years.I will need some new shoes at some point this spring so will keep an eye out in the sales.Didn't bother buying boots this winter, when it was snowy I used my rubber gardening shoes to nip across the road inThey have quite a thick tread on them and keep me upright Two layers of socks on my feet and I was warm as toast.
My heating I suppose is difficult as my joints suffer in the cold and damp(I have osteo-arthriris and at times I'm not very mobile. But I do try to keep at least one room at an even temprature.
I holiday in this country, as insurance costs would double the price of a foreign holiday with my age and health problems ,but I don't mind as I think there are some wonderful spots in the UK I have yet to see.
Probably will eat a bit more veggie this year ,as the cost of meat rises.

I also have been "green' for a good long while. I have not been able to take the step to totally being veggie, but have reduced my meat meals significantly. Im Aussie and for many years I have been lugging out my washing/shower water to use on my garden(well b4 water restrictions) I have always grown some vegies/fruit/herbs and use mainly public transport tho my OH does have a small very economical car. Composting, recycling etc are standards in our house- most of my flour etc containers are old coffee containers;) Last year I didnt buy any clothes except underwear tho I did fly to my dads 70th as it was 2000kms and i didnt want to miss it. I try my best, I am certainly not perfect but I also find it a little infuriating when friends who are newly converted to environmentalism rave about their new dual kitchen waste bin for 'recycling' and this and that and then proceed to brag about their new SVU which is their 2nd car and they justify it by saying its ssafer for their kids. I shouldn't be judgemental but its a pet peeve big gas guzzling cars especially in the city when they never are used for the purpose they were built:mad: Sorry for the ramblings, I hope everybody jumps on board, Im going to try and reduce my meat meals even more (but dont tell my OH;)) and reduce power usage if I can.

I'd never heard of this 10:10 thing until this thread, but like many here not much more I can reasonably do as I have been low carbon for decades, including cycling to work, no foreign hols etc etc

PS, not really convinced climate change is all down to mankind's actions, and to some extent agree with Butterfly Brain, convenient reason for Town Hall nosey parkers to employ wheelie bin Stasi and other daft things. And no, I do not read the Mail

So what do you base this belief on :D

Don't know how much more we can reduce emissions!

We are similar - though OH does have a car for work, no viable alternative for it sadly.

local produce from local box schemes, home grown in our miniscule back 'hankerchief' garden, hedgerow berries etc. make do and mend, or buy 2nd hand or freecycle. 20 or 30 degree wash (luckily our ancient 2nd hand Miele - 25yr+ old can do 20 degree) Airer in the stairwell (had one in both the houses we have lived in), smaller house, curtains over doors etc, draughtexcluders, cover over the letter box, refuse, reduce, recycle, never fly, only occasionally travel far, etc etc .

Don't get me wrong we are FAR from angels but I do feel sometimes why should we bother so much when we are surrounded by people who just consume to excess all the time.

I would rather the gov. sort out public transport, buses with enough leg room for taller people, lower costs, better routes etc. than tax fuel more. If it was cheaper to go by PT than car that would surely help?

    Sorry, *gets off soap box*.
    Put the kettle on. ;)
