    Hi IF love your diary!!

I think the real problem with consolidation loans are when you get one, pay off all your cards, and loans etc......then start spending on the cards again. (I have done this before LBM ...what a plonker ehh:eek:)

So as you now budget to within an inch of your life and you seam to really know where each penny goes I think you are probably doing the right thing for you.

You are extending the debt free date, but you will be able to do more family things etc and as long as you stick to your budget, I think this could work out ok.

Also, I have seen some very trendy shopping trollys in Asda..very swish!!

  • Thank you visitors.

I really do need a kick up the backside sometimes though. I'm gonna do my best to stick to budgeting because I feel an emormous sense of relief that if DH is to lose his job, then with the new outgoings I will be able to cope on my wage / CB / Tax credits & jobseekers. I keep adding up to make sure that my figures are correct!

(Think my first splurge will have to be on the zebra print trolley though!)

Oh dear, things aren't looking good with only 17 days left to payday. I've got my night out to go on tomorrow too, which I'm budgeting £30 for (whoops). However I admit to feeling that I have a "woohoo, I'm free, I'm cured, I'm rich" attitude because of the money that the loan will free up, so I need to be careful that I don't fall back into old spending ways. I did think about not having the need to do this diary anymore, but I do, because otherwise if i have no one to be accountable to, then I'll just start spending like Beckham. I'm already mentally buying myself some (genuine!) Ugg Cardi boots and new jeans "as a treat" - *laughs hysterically**

Found out from the bank yesterday that although the balance on one of the loans is £6386.14 - they want that amount PLUS outstanding interest of £59.66 PLUS two month's interest of £127.33 to pay it off too - GRRRR.

The other loan is £3447.50 but I'll get a refund of interest so they only need £3171.06 to pay it off, so it does even itself out. I just hadn't realised so much interested would be added to the above loan to pay it off early.

I'll get the papers sent off this weekend and hopefully will have the money next week, then I can set about paying the three loans off.

Oh, paypal money and mystery shopping wages went into account today so I've shifted that to my gifts fund, which now has £137.24 in there, so I'm just over 33% of the way there now

  • Argh, noooo - don't fall back into those patterns! Even if you're living comfortably, you should try and remember how much fun it is to budget and save money. Perhaps you can continue in the same thread, but then any extra money you have left over can go toward extra payments on your new loan?

I don't suppose you've tried using https://www.whatsthecost.com/ it can be really encouraging to save when you see how much difference the extra payments can make.

I hope you manage to keep it up!

    Money spent since last update:
£14.00 - Sainsbury (Friday) it was slightly less but I can't find receipt.
£1.60 - newspapers (Sat) x 2. Had to take DS2 to his footy practice however parents have to stay so I bought a couple of papers to pass the time.
£1.20 - didn't have any small plastic bottles in the house to take juice in, so had to buy a bottle from vending machine.
£10.00 - babysitting money for my brother.
    £16.00 - taxis.
    £25.46 - drinks at party
£2.99 - face paint (went to a fancy dress party)

Grocery budget: £220.00 / TOTALLY BLOWN!
Petrol Budget: £110.00 / TOTALLY BLOWN!
    Everything else budget: TOTALLY BLOWN!

GAWD, budget has been blown big style. I decided yesterday that I wanted DH to come to my friend's birthday party with me so I had to pay my brother for babysitting and it obviously upped the drink's budget. I was also planning on driving but then changed my mind so that added taxi fares too. Anyway I had a good time but find myself left with no money so I will definitely be going into the red again.

I can see how easily it is to fall into that trap so I promise faithfully that I will track my spending every day and update my diary to keep myself on the straight and narrow. I don't want to have to be feeling sick because my overdraft is running away with itself, or not being able to sleep at night because of debts etc etc..

Damn car insurance place isn't open today and insurance is due tomorrow, however thankfully it is insured until midday so I will have to ring them first thing tomorrow morning and pay it. I haven't been able to find anything even a penny cheaper for the same cover so I'm staying with E-Sure. Car Fund account is down to the £400's now ARRRGGGHHHHHHHH so I need to build that back up again.

So you've had a blip or two. It happens. At least you can acknowledge that it has happened, give yourself a kick up the bum and get on with life until the next time something carp happens which blows your plans to smithereens. No matter how many times I rehash the budget I can't seem to get it quite right or allow for the number of possible eventualities that seem to occur when you least expect them.
