I wear foundation everyday, I have good skin.

Never suffered from spots much when young.

Its a good base for makeup & it makes it last longer, it really does provide the perfect base for it.

Suppose it helps if you have the right type of foundation for your skin type. Most people I know seem to be in a vicious circle of having bad skin so use foundation to cover it up which in turn makes their skin worse, so they continue with the foundation to cover it up....... and so on. If I was going for full slap then yes, I agree with you, that foundation, of the right type and applied properly, is worth it. But given that I rarely use anything other than mascara and lipgloss, and have good skin, I don't see the point. For me.

I've scrimped on foundation before and never again. Persoanlly I think it's worth finding one that suits you and your skin. I use Mac moistureblend- it's £22 but lasts 3-4 months which I think is fairly good economy. I'd rather wear none than a bad one x

Foundation should enhance your skin, not mask it, in fact i think it can actually help protect your skin. If your skin needs masking, ask yourself why and address it.

I'm 52 and have worn foundation practically every day of my adult life! I'm well-chuffed with the condition of my skin, helped also by using the OCM for the last year.

Most foundations also contain SP ingredients which I keep banging on about, but which are so important long-term as is not smoking and lucky genes!

    do i need a cleanser,toner then a moisturiser?
I find it helps my skin, but each to their own, I find if I skip on toner -and its taken me a few years trial and error to prove this to myself as I didn't want to believe it for about 3 years! But if I don't use toner I get white patches of dry skin on my forehead and nose and cheeks! Regardless of the type of cleanser (tried many: clinique, Simple, Lush, Dove soap....many others! gave each a 3-4 month shot). I use a toner on cotton wool pads at the moment Lush's but have just used facial wipes in the past. Simple's are great but they do work out expensive!

do i need a seperarate day and night cream? Yes, you must or should always wear some sort of SPF. You don't need SPF in the night time and I like the idea of as fewer additives (man made additives that is) on my face as possible so if I can get away from using SPF I do. Having said that, I have gotten into using an SPF50 stick (Kiehl's and its fantastic!) apply before moisturiser, wait for about 15 mins then apply moisturiser. You wont notice the wrinkles for seveal years but once they come, they come thick and fast so don't skip on the SPF unless your prepared for the effects!

does the moisturiser have to have spf or the foundation. No, you can use SPF separatly but be aware that you do need to use quite a bit to get the entire SPF level stated. You may need time for it to settle in before leaving home as it can take some time to sink in- hence why I use a Kiehl's stick as it settles in very fast. Remember that its fine to not wear SPF but you are risking yourself skin damage in the way of wrinkles and early fine lines. You can get some matte sun protection creams like L'Oreal sun protection facial care and some primers have SPF in them such as Mac's primer which has an SPF of 50.

do i need moisturier pre tinted moisturiser? Its entirely up to you, but as your skin colour can change through the year I'd be wary of what you use and also remember you do need to continue the colour to your neck and chest. This means extra scrubbing at night when you wash your face!

do i need a primer b4 appling makeup? I don't think so- you can do- and if your using it as an SPF then I'd say yes! but I don't use a primer, I just use Maybelline's foundation, they don't seem to need a primer. One good primer if you have fine lines or oily skin though is the one by GOSH at Superdrug, its very good but can dry out your skin if its dry or slightly dry so go easy with it and don't use it day.

do i need separate tan from face to body? I have never tried fake tan so cannot comment on this. I'd generally say yes as the skin on your body is different to that on your face, the pores on your face are much smaller and can become clogged easier or simply not absorb moisturisers as easily/at all compared to say your legs.

need to pluck ,shape my brows.
I'd say get them done professionally (threading is good but can be slightly painful as it lasts a bit longer then waxing, do not get this done when your on your period it will hurt more!)
never considered tinting but probably should as they quite fair as natural hair colour mousey blonde.. Ask a salon, they ideally should match or be only a shade or two from your hair colour- the biggest fashion/style no no I see IMO is dark dark eyebrows and bleached bright yellow hair- so bad its funny!

Hair- did try college place when in college took them ages, no colleges near me. Don't have any real answers to that, I always get mine done as a model- its alot cheaper, yes it takes hours but its cheap! And looks good too seeing as most of the students are on their best behaviour. You could ask at salons to see if they need any models?

might trying some of old peoples salons round here away from high street as might be cheaper growing my hair so just need trims and layers will colour at home. Could be, but I'd say get a coloured haired friend in on it- you do her hair, she does yours, that way you get an even result and time passes that much faster!

nails doubt will ever be long but could look better what do i need to do just file them and use clear nail varnish for shine? not sure could have full manicure as they non existant.
I never do my nails so cannot comment (they are forever in and out of water and chipped nails really annoy me to much to ever paint my nails!) I do paint my toenails though as it lifts my mood- even though 50% of the year no one ever sees them!

im thinking some things maybe would last ages and should maybe try spend a bit more. Yup- in my experience you do get what you pay for! And aside from that I find I feel that bit more "treated" and "special" and this counts for alot!

wheres me me me from. Superdrug.

  • I'm looking to reduce my beauty bill this year (and the rest!) and there have been some really good tips here, Thanks!

I was a Benefit BadGal gal for a while, but just bought Collection 2000 volumising mascara (called Fabulous Volume or something like that) and its giving it a run for its money. Certainly the best High street mascara I've had in a while. Tried Max Factor Masterpiece Max and it was rubbish, all spikey lashes and the plastic brush is kind of painful.

Barry M does great loose eyeshadows in little pots that I love - last forever and all the colours your heart could desire.

At the moment Superdrug are doing a 3 for 2 on all cosmetics brands, which is quite good. I used it to treat myself - bought two things I needed and one thing I wanted!

Interesting point about toner jenniewb, I have been getting loads of dry flaky patches, and put it down to stress, but could well be that I moved from toner to facial oil when winter hit. I make my own of both - Toner is Orange Blossom Water that my aunt gives me from Tunisia where she lives, with a few drops of lavender essential oil. I keep it in a glass bottle with a spray, and spray it straight onto my face, so no cotton wool needed. I reckon Rose Water would be just as lovely and cheap too.

My facial oil is a blend taken from Liz Earle's first book Vital Oils, which has recipes for both eating and putting on your skin. I picked mine up on eBay, but be sure to get the first edition, the second edition doesn't have the recipes in it, as she'd started producing her skin care line by then.

If you're going down the plant oils root, there is a website called The Soap Kitchen (please google it I'm too new to include links yet!). Cheap and good quality stuff, and sent by weight so you're not getting done on postage.

As for the magazines only recommending expensive products, last month's Elle had an article in it about high street brands. I thought it was pretty good (with the pinch of salt re. trying to sell stuff), and its probably still in the shops, just. If not people tend to resell the issues on eBay, so worth a try.

    Make-up

I would say try Gosh make -up from Superdrug. Its amazing. I am such a make up snob .I used to be a Nars,Benefit and Mac addict ( Im still a Mac addict:eek:lol. Gosh do a Lipstick called darling, it has a cult following on You tube, and is the most fabulous nude lipstick in the world IMO lol:j.

I agree that Me,Me,Me is also great on a budget, they do some Benefit and Nars style products.
I would agree with the St Moritz fake tan post . I get it in Home bargans for £2.99, it rocks. Not as long lasting as St Tropez, but rocks all the same.
Barry M is another good brand for fashion forward make up, the Bronzer is good. My secret weapon brand when Im broke is Prestige from Boots, its mineral make up and its fabulous, and same sort of price as Loreal products. The do a baked bronzer £7.99 not too unlike Mac's . But dont tell anyone :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Revlon make good enough make up brushes, on offer at Superdrug as we speak etc. However, it can be worth investing in Mac brushes, and taking good care of them. Tools make a big difference to application of budget products.

    HTH.
........this is my own opinion, I am a civil servant, and I dont work for any company mentioned.:).
I appreciate Each and Every win. I thank every comp poster from the bottom of my heart :A

I was in Superdrug earlier, needed some new mascara. I saw Gosh but overlooked it as I had never heard of it! Damn!

Got a max factor one on special offer. I used to use the likes of Lancome and clinique but I think at the end of the day its all the same.
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

    Here's my money saving tips:

Gosh make up is great, comparable in quality to MAC
Sleek cosmetics are also pretty good.

Cheapest, and really great quality make up is ELF cosmetics, Studio line is fantastic!

If you want to use a primer for your make up, use Milk of Magnesia.

I've been using the Oil Cleansing Method, and it's saving me a fortune so far in skincare products!

For fake tan, use St Moriz, it's £2.99 from Watt Brothers/Semi Chem/B&M.

Bought is to buy. Brought is to bring.

I love No7 intelligent colour, because its so light its almost a moose (sp?).

I HATE thick foundation. If anyone has bad skin they still need a light foundation with a concealer on the bad bits.

And it must match the skin, not form an orange tide mark:eek:
