I go to the training college locally to have my hair cut, each stage is checked by the tutor so no need to worry. I recently had a loose wavy perm done for free :)

mascara? Maybelline are great! I do find though with all the cheaper brands, they just don't last as long! I know your supposed to chuck out old mascaras after 6 months- I don't!! I never have and my eyes are fine! I have a DiorShow mascara I got in last years sales still going strong but in the same time period have gotten through 3 Maybelline macaras, 1 rimmel mascara, 1 Bonjours mascara and a mini benefit mascara. I don't though think the "pink" maybelline mascara is any good- its rubbish!!

lipgloss? I don't use this, but if I do, I use Juicy Tubes- the reason being I get bought lip gloss I never wear it so don't buy it myself!) Juicy tubes is nice though and lasts longer then my old chapstick/cheaper brands for the gloss finish and looks cute in your handbag- top tip? get someone else to buy to for you!!

foundation? I use Maybelline, but I think it depends what your looking for and what your skin is like. Mine is very very pale and basicly its either maybelline or Bobbi brown for the correct colour. Unfortunelty the purse strings wont strech to Bobbi Brown. Maybelline is great though- stays in place for hours if not all day! Not tried other brands as they don't match my skin tone but know there was a thread on the low spend freebies board for samples of mineral foundation which seemed to last people a while.

eyeshadow? Mac. Sorry, expensive I know, but I just cannot tollerate the crease marks in eyeshadow! With Mac,- or benefit creaseless shadow, I just don't get them! Not even after a gym session! But other eyeshadows just crease within a few hours, drives me mad! Failing that, don't use shadow, just use an eyeliner with colour, then theres nothing to crease! Chanel is also good but scary priced- one for the birthday/xmas list I think! (or like me, use your boots points for!)

concealer? Again, Maybelline, they do a mineral concealer which matches the foundations and its great! Benefit do one in a little pnk pot which lasts for ages and ages too- very much value for money! Touch Eclait is good but not as a concealer, good as a highlighter and worth the money as I've not found anything like it! But again, one for the Xmas/birthday list!

whats best skincare products? I think again, this depends on your skin type. I have fickle skin which can easily get clogged with too thick skincare products. Lush Vanishing cream is great, but all the other skin care creams gave me spots! I love Nuxe but its mega pricey! Liz Earle is supposed to be good- creams are around £15 plus. Never tried myself but sound promising!
Skin care creams which have given me big ugly whitehead spots have been: Body Shop, Boots No.7, Vaseline, Simple, Soap and Glory, Nivea, L'oreal... bascily anything with petroleum, lanolin, mineral oils or lanolin oils in.

facemask/ like those sauna ones that heat up on face.
I think Lush wins hands down! For me, skin masks need to be fun or intersting for me to use them! And with lush they have so many things to try, the ingredients are intersting and the packaging is cute!
An exfoliator once to three times a week gives the same results though, I orefer natural based ones and got a cheap dermalogica rice based one on ebay which has lasted be ages! I'd not use anything sugar or salt based though- at least not on your face as they can cause micro tears which can create damaged skin, hard skin and other skin conditons.

moisturiser? As explained above with Skincare. I'd go to a counter and ask for advice, then transfer this advice to lower priced products. I know for example from seeing people from Dermologica that my skin is very fine, smaller pores but lots of 'em, hence the clogging. While its not sensitive it can react to certain products as it can get clogged- unfortunetly I learned that last bit the hard way!

whats best shops to go to? Depends whomever has the better offers on and what your looking for! I prefer ebay!! Boots can be good as can Superdrug but Lush is nice as a treat.

best shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair? I hate using shampoo for coloured hairt so I don't and my hair fades! But if I had the money I'd use the new Safflower stuff by Kiehl's as I tried samples and loved the soft results. But cannot comment on any for results as I just don't use them long enough and I find I get softer results with products that are not colour focused (not including Kiehl's) however, Aveda has many products which say "works for colour treated hair" and they do give good results. I did used to use John Frieda and things along that price range but found that pricier brands just gave such better results I couldn't resist! I get most of my stuff on special offer, on ebay or as gifts.

    best home hair colour?
I think I like Feria but thats because I like the vivid results. XXL fades big time and Herble Esscences made me itch like crazy! I go to salons as a model whenever I can as I get far better and far more even results there and for nearly the same price as a home hair colour but less effort.

    wheres cheap to get haircut?
As above, go in as a model, about £5 to £10 a shot.

magazines always seem to reccomend the really expensive products?
Think i read some items you have to pay more others yoy can skimp on. Yes I agree- mags are there soley to advertise and this is what they do best. Few if any are actually honest I'll bet...!

  • I haven't read all the threads so apologise if it's already been said - i pay £9.50 for a wash and cut. It's only £8 for a dry cut but i find they can cut it better when it's wet. Lots of barbers also cut womens hair for about a fiver. I refuse to pay the extra tenner or so just to have it blow dried when i can do that myself. You may need to take a hat with you though or walk home with wet hair! lol
  • Your hairdresser is right about some shampoos, they are silicone based and although make your hair look shiny they dont actually do anything for your hair (I used to manager a hair and beauty suppliers and all the hairdressers said the same!). On the HS I would go for Aussie (usually on offer BOGOF or 2 for £5).

If you know anyone that works in hair and beauty and is qualified in something/anything (as long as they have a certificate of somekind) go to a trade place and pick up huge bottle of something like Clynol or Indola (which in the high street is a modified version called Treseme!) they are about £12 inc VAT and will last you forever.

I would stock up on a few bits now in boots paying for items seperatly (or to make £5) to get the £5 no.7 voucher thats meant to be out (but check first becuase there has been conflicting info on here) and stock up on the No.7 make up brushes which are brilliant, foundation sponges and the little compact mirror, which after the vouchers make them about 50p-£1 each.

Rimmel often give away mascaras and nail varnishes (comp but often get 1) and these are pretty good.

No 7 also do good mascaras. If you are going on a night out can't beat fake eyelashed - they are pretty cheap now and look fab.

    Rimmel for nail varnish.
    17 (boots) for eyeliner.
    Natural collection (boots) for lipgloss.
Vaseline or Johnsons for facecare and moisturiser (usually on offer).

Magazines are often giving away good branded make up (Benefit was given away a lot last year) too.

A mobile hairdresser is usually cheaper than a salon or go to the local college, ours is £5 a cut.
    £2 Savers club £0/£150
    1p a day £/
