Abbey £40 offer to open acc

I heard on the radio the other night an advert from Abbey stating it would give you £40 for opening an account with them in branch.
I checked and there's nothing on their website about this. Has anyone been into the branch or seen this offer? Or if anyone knows under what conditions it would be paid, credits etc?
TIA

Nothing's free.....but we'll see what we can do!

The main T&Cs are:
You must earn over £500pm and have your salary paid into the Abbey account
You must "switch" your current account from another bank (but you don't have to close the account or switch your DD's, just your salary mandate)
Abbey will match your overdraft amount and facilities.0 -
DON'T TOUCH ABBEY! They are a nightmare to deal with if anything goes wrong. After having Abbey card stolen in AUGUST last year in Spain and money fraudulently obtained, still waiting for refund - or even an acknowledgement to say it is being investigated. Very bad customer service - they takes your money then don't want anything else to do with you. Needless to say, all accounts held with Abbey will be closed on return to England. (See post on Vents board re Abbey.) >:(
However, First Direct have just sent me another letter offering me £35 to open a current account with them, as long as I am £100 in credit by 31st March. They have upped this from their previous offer of £25. Anyone else had anything from them? Worth opening just to get the dosh!

Have you chased up the Abbey fraud department at all? They had a bit of a backlog but certainly not as long as August, so it sounds like your case was either closed or not received. I think their direct number is 0845 8506 999 but I can check that on Monday if it's wrong.0

I have sent 3 faxes to Abbey fraud department on my mother's behalf (no access to fax machine - letters sent here signed by her) - they only acknowledged 1! My mum has sent 3 emails to their complaints department, but received 'automated replies' with no explanation of anything. Abbey finally tried to phone my mum in Spain, did not speak to her direct, but left a message on their phone - strange - they have their mobile with them all the time! The message was that they would write to my mother, so I am expecting something in the next few days. After speaking to them myself, they have received the claim form so no problem there, but still it is no excuse to delay the investigation into this especially after reimbursement for fraudulent transactions from other banks within 1 month of it happening has been made! Disgraceful! It is now 8 weeks since the first complaint was sent, so the next step is to take it to the Financial Ombudsman. Very very angry with them. >:(0

I've mentioned on another thread, but I was offered an Abbey account and successfully opened one, even though I'm not working at the mo. I'm on an unpaid careeer break at the mo, so 'officially' have a job paying good money. However, not intending to return any time soon. I was classed as a partial switcher and will just have my child benefit paid in. I only get a small overdraft, but hey, I'm only in it for the cash. I was told that once I have paid in £250 I'll get my £40. Once I have that. I'm going back to my old bank and closing the Abbey - I was told there is no minimum time to keep the account.0

Can i ask, who told you that? I am very interested in this promotion and the extra money wouldnt come amiss.Ticklemouse wrote:I was told that once I have paid in £250 I'll get my £40. yep you should get your £40 shortly after paying in the required amount (not sure its as little as £250 tickle but ill double check) ... and there is no requirement to keep hold of the account for any length of time.

Well I thought it was £500 to get the incentive, and £250 a month is the minimum income to qualify for the account, but I might be wrong. Anyways today is definitely the last day for the offer. The new offer from 1 Feb is you get £50 if Abbey make a mistake switching your account.0

do you work for abbey fatboy? what do you do?
£500 to get incentive, £250 to qualify for account sounds more like it, im sure thats correct.
only problem i suppose is if you are credit scored for the account initially - means you have a credit check on your file for the sake of £40 ... worth it??

I'm a branch Customer Advisor. I've been working for Abbey since July. Are you Abbey staff as well?0
