How do you label your jam jars?

Options
Hi
How do you label your jam jars? Do you use glue stick and paper, or do you print avery labels and stick them on? If so, do they come off easily when you wash the jars?

Or do you label your jars at all?

I have a batch of jam I would like to sort, so any ideas are wellcome.

Thank you.

I usually make labels using Publisher. I stick them on using PVA glue.

For gifts this year, I commissioned DD (who's an art student ;) ) to do some. She drew outlines of fruit in fineliner and filled in with watercolour paint, and added text to describe the contents.

I buy a roll of sticky white labels from a stationery shop - the sort you would use to address and envelope. if I'm feeling particularly thrifty I'd cut them in half. they usually come off fine when I wash the jars out

I use sticky stationers labels too. I just write on them in indelible pen and my eight year old might add a pencil drawing of the fruit or veg involved inside. She's quite artistic, unlike me!

I buy packets of Avery or Niceday A4 sheets of printable labels from EBay then just print out the labels as and when I need them. They come off pretty easily with a short soak in warm water

Sticky labels for me too. I usually have a roll of Lakeland freezer labels around. I cut them in half too when I'm getting near the end of the roll.
  • If the jam is for gifts then I use some fancy labels from Lakeland that they don't seem to do anymore. Jam for me is labelled with labels from work

Once I'm out of fancy labels I'm going to use luggage tags to label gift jams I think.

I use a program called MyLabels (Publisher would do if I didn't have this).

I print on the back of old, once-used printer paper and attach to jars and bottles with a wee bit of Sellotape.

I use a desktop publishing program and A4 sheets of labels (14 to a page). I do tend to make jam, marmalade, chutneys etc. in large batches though; mainly for our own use and some will be given as gifts.

The jars are stored in a large banana box under the spare bed. To make finding the type of preserve you want to eat easier, I also print smaller versions of the labels to stick on the lids. This means I can determine the contents without having to pull every jar out!

    Hope this helps

Al my preserves are potentially gifts so I try to label them nicely. I use the avery labels [well, the versions of their labels that don't cost as much] and use the avery labeller and print them out.

I try and match the font colour with the colour of the contents but that's just me! Saddo I know.
  • I use the ones that come with the waxed paper and clear tops you can buy for jamming.
    Put the kettle on. ;)
