do we have a percentage budget per head?
Is the £4000 for say 2 adults? How much does that translate for 2 adults and 4 children, or is it irrelevant and amounts are just according to personal needs?

Its completely up to you. We are a family of 2 adults and 4 children and I'm working towards a budget of £12k. That includes everything except mortgage, regular giving, a loan we have and savings.
  • Exactly!!

Dh doesn't understand where the money goes  and tbh neither do I really. We are keeping a diary of all spending starting this year.

So far this year I have had 3 NSD, which is rather good for me. I might keep a track of them actually....

oh wow congrats, i would love to be a SAHM, but need to pay the bills, thats one of the main reasons for doing these challenges is so that i can reduce debt/outgoings so i am not living to work, i have reduced to 3 days per week start back at feb half term when my mat leave is up, i am dreading going back :(

I've been battling with myself since New Year's Eve: do I join again? In the end I've decided not to, because the stuff on here is just too addictive and I need to be able to lurk and not get caught up in it. So I won't be one of the challengers but I'll be cheering you all on from the sidelines.

The thread is growing so fast I can't keep up, but I've been skimming and Cheryl, I'm really sorry about your dog. I hope she recovers.

Just a quick note re watering down milk. For some strange scientific reason semi skimmed and skimmed milk has less fat but not less calcium and other goodness to full fat milk

By watering down full fat milk you will also dilute it's goodness. As long as you are getting enough goodness from the rest of your diet, no probs. Perhaps needs to be done in moderation for young children though?
