Hmmm Thats summat to think about, I'd have thought if it wasnt your fault then you wouldnt be penalised, or maybe you might be entitled some kind of compensation, suppose the police and your insurance company will inform you better, keep posting on here about it though I would like to know the outcome.

And btw I understand totally about accounting for every penny then disaster strikes and throws everything up in the air.

Pain in the bum aint it?

Similar thing happened to me, some idiot with no insurance or road tax hit my car. Claimed on my insurance and ended up losing my £250 excess as they never managed to get the money off the guy involved as he was in and out of prison the whole time! Fortunately my no-claims bonus was protected, but I was still out of pocket for something which wasn't my fault.

Sorry to hear this has happened - what a nightmare.

There's an organisation (I think it's called the Motor Insurance Bureau) that is there to cover your losses where the other party isn't insured/traceable, etc. I don't know much about it (other than knowing of someone else who has used it due to a similar incident), but would suggest searching either other forums on MSE or the net generally.

You're right about it being a blot on your insurance though - even with No Claims protected and not your fault, it's still a claim! That really annoys me.

Keep us posted on how things progress and good luck sorting.

Edited to add the link to MIB https://www.MIB.org.uk

I had this in December - some idiot smashed into the front of our people carrier, reveresed away into the side of someone else and as he sped off clipped the back of our car and slammed into the side of someone else.

The problem was, he got away! The berk who saw this was drunk himself and didn't get the reg number. The CCTV footgage was abysmal and you can see nothing except headlights!

So, well out of pocket and our car insurance is expected to double this year. We will have to get rid of the people carrier as there is no way we can afford it. And we have a family of six so the people carrier is not a luxury for our family!

But C'est la Vie. At least no one was in the car.

THEY GOT HIM he was caught at his house drunk as a skunk. He had left his house keys and a letter with his address in the car .When I had to go to the police station with the paper work I did offer to personaly throw the book at him but my offer was declined more's the pity.

Sorry to hear about that, our family was in the same precipice last year some lout crashed into our car and wrote it off. I would also like to add that iI assume the accident is not your fault hence the premium wont go up finally are you not trying to claim compensation from that clown?

I was fast asleep in the house with the car parked on the road outside the house and when it did crash it sounded like a train crash .
I have motor legal protection on my insurance and i am going to ask if they can claim for the stress that this is going to cause me as i read that someone had claimed for that after there car was hit :j

its a good thing you are ok unfortunately there was 3 of us in the car when we got it, it was horrible i just remember the car lurching forward and there being a horrible metally dust taste in the air. Luckily I got £1800 thanks to the County court.

are you sure you didnt have a brand spanking new latop in the back of your car when it was hit? ;)
