its a good thing you are ok unfortunately there was 3 of us in the car when we got it, it was horrible i just remember the car lurching forward and there being a horrible metally dust taste in the air. Luckily I got £1800 thanks to the County court.

are you sure you didnt have a brand spanking new latop in the back of your car when it was hit? ;)

Yeah great, so the MIB will pay for this uninsured driver. And they get their money from a portion of every insured driver's premium. And now they have to pay more because there 'was' a laptop in the back.

Welcome to rip-off Britain, where people moan about being ripped off but make damn sure they get their cut.

I have had the garage were the car is advice me that the car is a insurance right off as when the car hit mine he had shattered both of the axles of my car and they have advised that insurance will only repair the car up to 70 % of its value .

So that means that a stupid drunk driver has destroyed my car and the insurance is not going to cover enough to buy the same car in the same condition ie: well looked after, taxed, mot and no bumps or scrapes .

Not sure what will happen just yet as still waiting to see what the solicitor has to say about the uninsured loss .

I have total sympathy with you. We were hit on Sunday by a stupid woman taking absolutely no notice of where she was going, totally her fault. We are having to pay £250 excess which we will only get back if our company get a full recovery from her company, which I doubt as she is totally denying fault and we have no witnesses (apart from the four of us in the car) and no CCTV footage. We will also lose 2 of our 3 years no claims bonus. I am wondering if there is any way we will be able to recover our uninsured losses, small claims court perhaps? I will check out the MIB link above as well.

what is it with people bumping cars? My belowed MX5 (old one btw) was reversed into the other week at the vets. Thankfully I have the lady's details (not like she can hide from me... we use the same vet) and she was in a courtesy car and said just to get the work done and she'd pay... I did tell her that it might not be as cheap as that she scratched the top and bottom of my bumper and they are colour matched to the car... of which there are only 240 in the UK in that colour... And only Mazda can get that exact shade :)

Thankfully it looks like no actual damage to the bumper or the car :)

Oh please be careful - we had a bump a few years ago, where the damage was £700 worth - we made the silly mistake of believing the kindly gent when he said 'just get the work done and I'll pay' - we never saw any of the money, and because we left it too long, no witnesses etc, we lost out. I will never ever make that mistake again, in fact this time the woman said exactly that 'oh my ex runs a garage, we'll fix it' and I said not a chance.

If a car is a insurance right off how do they figure out how much they pay in regards to a claim :A

Apparently you lose your no claims (or a portion of it) if your insurers are unable to reclaim from the other party or their insurer.

Sorry to say this has happened to me twice. On both occasions the other party was not caught and both were in stolen vehicles, therefore the burden of cost went on my own insurance.

  • Just wanted to add, if you are ever told your car is a write off NEVER accept the first offer from the insurance company. I have had 2 cars written off in the past, one was an accident not my fault and the other was storm damage, on both I refused their first offer, produced "for sale" ads of similar cars in like condition to prove its worth and I got £450 extra on one claim and on the other, the storm damage one I got over £600 as I claimed for my CD multichanger which was covered - yet they failed to include in their breakdown of offer.

Its true that your car is always worth more to you than to anybody else. I would be lost without my car now.

Good luck in getting this sorted out quickly.
 £2 savings - so far £20

I was also informed at the time that the MIB is not for compensating individuals, it is for compensating Insurance companies in the event of them being unable to recover their losses from an untraceable or uninsured driver.
