Lido de Jessolo is fabulous, lovely hotels and beach, plus you can get a bus so easy to Punto Sabbitini where you can catch the ferry over to Venice for the day - it only a 15 minutes ride over. You could also go to Murano and Burano which make great day trips.....If you wanted to venture a little further afield from Venice train station go on a day trip to Verona or Padova both trips no more than an hour away.

    Hi Freckle

Noted that you said you didn't mind UK and so what about staying at Englesea Brook in the potteries. there is a cottage there available for rent on the site of a methodist museum - its a small hamlet. Cottage sleeps 5, and rent is from 70-135 per week depending upon where you go - lots to do in the area.
Could do with going for a week on my own myself (OH & DDs always in tow!)

I've travelled to various parts of the USA, Australia, Hong Kong, Spain and Japan on my own as a single female and have enjoyed it.

When I've wanted a beach holiday and I'm travelling solo, I've tended to pick a city - eg Miami, Sydney. When you're on your own and in a small tourist resort with only restaurants and bars open in the evening, you might feel a bit awkward if you haven't yet made any new friends. In a city I've found it more 'acceptable' to sit and have dinner in a restaurant on my own. Also, there's lots of other stuff to do in the evenings - theatre, cinema, shopping etc.

I've always been wary of staying in a resort/package place, for fear of being 'adopted' by a well-meaning, but irritating couple who think that because I'm on my own, I've got no mates and need looking after - watch Shirley Valentine to see what I mean!

One resort I can recommend is Le Sport in St Lucia. It's a pricey all inclusive, but you do get a lot for your money. It does have activities, which is not what you require - however it also has inclusive spa treatments (yes please!). There are special rooms available for singles without grandiose single supplements. There's a table in the main restaurant so that you can meet other single travellers (the food and drink is v.good quality). I actually went with a friend here, but we met lots of other singles - mostly aged 30 - 55 - and they all seemed to be having a good time. It's a relaxing place because you can get involved, or just chill out on your own - no pressure to join in.

    Hope you have fun!

I can happily recommend Dubai as a safe and comfortable place to visit.
I went with my Mum (in her 70's who tends to be very cautious and nervous) and even she said she would be happy to travel their on her own.

I felt it immensley liberating to feel that I could go anywhere on my own with no risk of any trouble etc. I was initally concerned about traveling to a country with such strict guidelines and laws.......but as I'm a peace luving gal and don't get into trouble.......then its really a great destination!

This time of year is maybe too hot to be comfortable......but any time over the winter is lovely and a great time to go when its cold and wet here!

Re;- Scotland.......as with everywhere its important to be careful, I live in Scotland and its a wonderful place to live and visit.....but maybe don't go awandering in the city centres alone esp over the weekend....I wouldn't anyway!!

Have Fun whatever you decide to go!

I'm not sure if this sort of thing will appeal to you to start off with .For any female wishing to travel alone there is an international organisation called Women Welcome Women. Members can obtain a list of other women around the world who are happy to put females travelling alone up for a few days or longer by prior arrangement.

I've never availed myself of this, but I have put a few people up in the past. One girl was stranded in London overnight when she missed her flight & was desperately phoning people who lived within easy travelling reach of the airport to see if she could find someone willing to offer her a bed at short notice.

My membership has currently lapsed, but I'm just about to renew as I think it's a great idea & a good way to meet new people & help them a little in travelling safely.

The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    Hi

I went on a mediterian cruise last year by myself and thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt totally safe and there was always company if you wanted it as you met other passengers at meal times and during activies which the entertainment teams organised. The ship I went on was Italian owned and not too big, it was great.
In England I would reccommend Warner holdiays (for adults only).
Have a lovely time wherever you go.

    Hi,

I am now in my forties and have travelled alone throughout UK. Europe and Oz since I was 18 yrs old. Sometimes I go with a friend but also enjoy the freedom of travelling alone and only having my own timetable/choice of how to spend my day , etc.

I would encourage you to go for it - see it as an opportunity/adventure of sorts. what's the worst that can happen - you don't like it ?

I feel safer now I'm older and more confident, almost always find people helpful and friendly.

I often stay in hostels in Europe ( life member )you'll find theres lots of single women of all ages travelling alone. Always someone to talk to ,if you wish to. Hear others tales/tips.

I'm just back from a week in north Italy and would recommend lake como, lake garda, trento area - mind you it was hot !! Especially for a Scot.

I generally don't go out much after dark alone in big cities but there are exceptions - trento, salzburg, vienna come to mind. Mind you I wouldn't go out alone at home or London either.

    so have a great time

    regards Anne

I am a great fan of Youth Hostels. Without them I could never have afforded to travel so extensively.

I can also recommend the women welcome worldwide group.

I have had a couple of visitors & members of the organisation often organise small group trips (of varying budgets) which are advertised in the newsletter.

    Happy travelling
