Thanks. Have read so many horror stories about paypal lately that I've just cancelled everything and registered a credit card instead!

I think there is some confusion here. When paypal do a chargeback they merely put your account into a negative balance and ultimately will put the debt collectors on to you, it doesn't matter whether you have a bank account registered or not.
This thread was initially about credit cards from a buyers point of view, and I am happy to say once again that I will always recommend that buyers pay by credit card as they then have a full back position if a seller clears out their account and refuses to refund.
