yeah, they're trying to deter people paying by credit card!!!!!!
when you select 'alternate funding' and select credit card, you get a nag screen
"
Funding Confirmation Secure Transaction
Before deciding to fund your payment with a debit or credit card, consider the benefits of paying with your bank account:
* Paying with your bank account is instant and your payment will be completed immediately - as easy as paying with cash
* PayPal keeps your bank account information safe and secure through military-grade encryption and 100% coverage of any unauthorised use
* Easy - use the same bank account for making payments and withdrawals
Do you still want to make this payment with a credit card?
"
interestingly, it makes no mention of
* Chargebacks, if the scammer has no money in his account, you can't do 'em, you get ripped off, we don't care, hehe, you really should have used your credit card!, then you would have been insured, leaving US out of pocket

Yes, it's very annoying.
A good trick for when your paypoo acount is in credit and it won't let you pay with a credit card:
Make a payment to a friend's paypal account so your account is no longer in credit. This will allow you to fund with your card. Then get friend to reject the payment. Job done.
OR
Make a payment to an email address you have which has not been set up on a paypal account. Make your payment via card. Go back into paypoo and cancel the payment. My TV is broken!

basically, as, often paypal's protection is as useful as the result of an argument between a an angry porkupine and a box of contraceptive devices that's been left open.......there's a fair chance things won't be safe if you use one of those devices.
the ONLY protection that nearly 100% guarentees you is to pay by credit card,
so, if paypal prevents you from using your credit card, you have no protection by the credit card company
this has already been witnessed by many posters here, and they do have my sympathies, i really didn't realise paypal bought up the nag screen to deter people from using that methodmoney saving my @rse.

did they also change it recently so the bank account is now the default payment method? Is there any way of changing it back so it'll use the credit card as the default?0

Before deciding to fund your payment with a debit or credit card, consider the benefits of paying with your bank account:
* Paying with your bank account is instant and your payment will be completed immediately - as easy as paying with cash
As is paying with your credit card
* PayPal keeps your bank account information safe and secure through military-grade encryption and 100% coverage of any unauthorised use
As it does with your credit card
* Easy - use the same bank account for making payments and withdrawals
And this is easier than paying with a credit card, how?
Do you still want to make this payment with a credit card?
Oh yes, Oh Yes

My paypal automatically defaults to pay by credit card and I don't get the nag screen at all...I've no idea how I managed that?

Impressive! Although my credit card is set as the default payment, I still get nagged every time.
It should be possible to set the credit card as the default, but remember:
It will NOT let you make a credit card funded payment if your paypoo account is in credit, and;
They WANT you to use your debit card, so keep an eye on your payments until you are sure they're all coming from your CC.My TV is broken!

I don't get nagged either. I constantly switch between my CC and debit card as the primary card as well (due to gambling transactions, etc) and still nothing has come up. Must be one of the lucky ones.0

If you cancel your bank DD and register a credit card instead of a debit card can paypal still do chargebacks through your credit card?0
