Hi folks, just after some advice from the experts. I sold a pair of old binoculars at the weekend. I listed them as vintage, I think they are over 90 years old, although possibly WW2. Anyway the buyer has received them and says one of the prisms is chipped and they can't be used as binoculars and he doesnt want them. He wants me to refund him and then he'll send them back. Well firstly he would need to return them before I refunded - do people agree. But secondly I didn't see any problems with them when I sold them. As they were sold as vintage, should I refund because there is a fault? Also if I do get him to send them back, do you think it is OK for me to get a 2nd opinion before refunding? Its always possible they were damaged en route, so I would need to make sure they are in the condition I sent them and if not make a claim i suppose. Anyway, sorry this is a bit rambling, but any advice gratefully received.LBM July 2009DMP Start 1 September 2009DMP Support Number 3350

well, starters yes he would need to send them back first before you refund! that is a definate. about the chip im going to guess it wasnt there, did you put in the auction that you accept refunds? anything to cover you and so on, did he pay by paypal? if he did and knows about chargebacks you should be carefull. i think your best bet is asking him to send the item back and then possibly claim on whoever it was you used to post the item, of course a second opinon is always a good idea aswellebay 2010 challenge -:j very impressed with myself

I put no refunds on the auction. There was no chip when I sent it (unless its something inside that a non-expert like me can't see). He did pay by paypal, can they still charge back when they have the item?LBM July 2009DMP Start 1 September 2009DMP Support Number 3350

It makes no difference what terms about refunds a seller puts in their auctions if an item is faulty or not as described then the buyer can and should get a refund.
Vintage should still mean working or good unless the auction says otherwise, so I would agree get the item back, refund and then if there is obvious damage and the item was properly packaged see if you can do a claim off the carrier. You will need to keep the buyer happy though as they will need to return all the packaging as you'll need that for the claim.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I'm pretty sure a chip on the prism is inside so you would not have known it was there unless you knew this type of object. Definately get them back before refunding thoughNot been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/1550

l think everyone is slowing down spending now for the end of Feb, have had a few sales but not added to the total as will keep them towards March's paypal fees!
So although we have 3 days to go l am call my total complete for Feb(unless l sell 100's in 3 days) and roll on March.
Have a good few days.:)Ist 2014 : Win Weekend in York0 -

I havent sold anything in February mainly due to having had my camera stolen, my phone is not good enough as a camera.
I did send a card to the person who bought my last item in January to explain that my bag had been stolen and as soon as my pin number came through that I would post their parcel. Had a lovely mail back via ebay.0
