is it worth applying for this card if my credit history is not the best? (defaults about 5 years ago, a few cc's now but min.payments made on time each month)

Yes, they are usually quite good - especially if you've got a clean file for the last 3 years..... they also increase your limit by a third every 6 months so long as you pay on time etc...... so its good to build up credit. Also, once you have run one card well, you are free to apply for a couple of their other cards and usually they accept you as well (granted limits can start low but in time they build up)....

Good luck whatever you do :D

any idea what norm aprs are with them to start / limit?

APR is - 16.9% variable but rarely goes above 21.9%.... limits can vary on you, but expect a grand leading to 3 grand. :D

Well done on the acceptance - give it 6 months then go for their Silver Card. :p
