Amazon cedit card WARNING

I did take up the amazon card offer when as I was completing an order and I think it is bullet point 2 which clearly says that the 0% is for Amazon purchases only. It is not a question of being financially savvy but taking time to understand what one is getting into. If the point in question were buried deep inside the t&cs then you have a point otherwise who is to blame?0 -
It is not a question of being financially savvy but taking time to understand what one is getting into.
I take your point, in general, where you are being offered a financial product when you are free to consider its implications.
But I think the question here is whether it is ethical to slip a financial offer into a process where it would be known that the prospective customer will have his/her mind on other things at the time. The financially savvy will be wary of such offers but, as I have said, not everyone is finance savvy.

and on a slightly different tack I set up a payment for my NEW Amazon card through my bank using their online menu system.
Payment made in good time.
Statement came today - payment not credited to the account and I have been hit with default charges and interest charges (having done a BT)
Turns out the information in the co-op system isn't for the correct Amazon account and my payment is in some sort of suspense account!
Co-op say they can't get it back; Amazon say they can't apparently HBOS have my money...
Amazon do say I will get the interest free back 'in a week'. I had better be getting the default charges and interest back, too...
And my missing payment!
Ironically Amazon and I bank at the same bank!
I have also had this problem with a payment from my smile account (so also co op) to my Amazon card. I spent a day making calls with the same replies as you received.
Amazon have removed the charges, but I haven't done anything since. I have no intention of using the Amazon card again as it was a small amount that I spent and I just wanted the £15 refund, but I am not sure if I should go any further with trying to get the money back from HBOS.
To my mind I have made a payment in good faith and its not really my problem any more surely its up to Smile, Amazon (or bonk of America as now run it) and HBOS to sort it out between themselves?
Any advice on how to proceed would be greatfully received!0 -

If your bank has the wrong details setup then clearly it is the bank's error. Put in a written complaint to the bank to reclaim the charges - it will also push the bank to update its records.0 -
I have just realised after receiving statement that amazon only offer the interest free on purchases made from amazon site, anything else will be charged interest and will only be cleared off once amazon purchases are cleared first, wish i had noticed thir
Thanks for that. Although I usually pay by vouchers on the site I might have been tempted by the offer now I know to leave it alone.0 -
We all know we should read the terms and conditions implicitly.
However as vonjosrob says it is a warning to those of us who didnt. I for one was seduced by the free £15.
I say well done to vonjosrob for pointing this out and making a lot of people aware that they are going to pay interest on non-amazon purchases so they can be prepared for it.0 -
I too have been caught by this and in the terms and conditions on page 3 of 4 on my second statement under the heading "Your rates of interest" 0% on purchases until August 2010 nothing about just Amazon only. I agree I should have checked more diligently but this is as far as I am concerned misrepresentation. I will not be using the card againI have just realised after receiving statement that amazon only offer the interest free on purchases made from amazon site, anything else will be charged interest and will only be cleared off once amazon purchases are cleared first, wish i had noticed thir :mad:0 -
All of that information is clearly displayed should you take the time to read the documentation that accompanied your card. It really isn't that difficult to read the terms and conditions when applying for a card.. that is of course you can read.
.
Making the assumption the OP can't read is a bit harsh with your grammar there Elkster! Your last sentence implies your writing is as bad as their reading!!0 -
I for one was seduced by the free £15.
I was not.
Given the potential for id fraud, spam and a credit search on your report for 12 months and a credit account record for 6 years.
I want a much bigger reward for that.
I have got the Amex card for £100 cashback, but £15 is not enough to entice me to part with all my personal details.0 -

I appreciate your criticising my grammar. I have taken a note of your comments and will donate those notes to the homeless - to be used as toilet paper.
Might I make another assumption. Perhaps you and the OP have something in common in regards to the reading skills. My nickname is ElkyElky, not "Elkster" as you creatively put. We’ve had to remove your signature.
