Just bought an Epson printer

Just bought an Epson SX415 printer to replace my duff Brother.
Anyway, installed the Epson cartridges that were provided and everything prints blurry - all the colours.
I've tried slightly thicker paper and even higher quality modes and everything is still blurry. I've also cleaned the ink heads three times.
My ink remaining is now at 1/3 full and I've only printed 20 sheets of paper at most.
Any advice? Take the printer back and buy something with ink that might actually last or is there anything I could so to fix this pile of [insert swear word here]?

Take it back ~ you shouldnt need to spend anymore money 'trying' to get to work what should work 'out of the box':idea:0

have you tried calibrating the print head? If it's been knocked a long way from alignnment I guess it will print around the correct area, not exactly in it, leading to blurringUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

take it back and buy from the Canon Pixma range instead.
i used to have Epson's previously and they were unbelievably unreliable, none of them lasted more than a year and didn't work properly for the entire duration.
Canon Pixma are the exact opposite - very reliable, and have made printers my least dreaded accessory...."To be ignorant of one's ignorance is the malady of the ignorant." Amos Bronson Alcott0 -

Exactly. Printers should give decent results from the first print onwards, not require you to spend time and money faffing about with different papers and various settings.
My old Epson 1290 was awesome but finally died after 5 years hard service, so I bought its upgraded brother the 1400, which is a load of rubbish. Same as above, everytime you switch it on, you have to spend half an hour cleaning print heads, aligning wasjigs and going through umpteen reams of paper before it prints acceptably.
So I ditched it.0 -
I've just taken it back to the shop (was from a very small local shop which I've been using regularly for over 10 years).
The man there said it was probably just faulty cartridges. He took a pack of compatibles off the shelf and tried them. Printer printed fine in all colours so I was happy.
He gave me two other sets of compatibles to make up for the fact I couldn't use the Epson ones.
I'm happy as I would have used compatibles anyway so I've just received free ink.0 -
I use Epson DX4850. It has been very good and reliable."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Result!
That's why you pay a little bit extra.
Imagine trying to get one of the big unmentionables to do that?Move along, nothing to see.0 -
......Till you go to buy the ink, and find out the price of them!
1. Same goes for ALL ink cartridges - all manufacturers lure you in and then hammer you with expensive cartridges.
2. You can buy 'compatible' ink cartridges which are cheaper.
3. I would still prefer the Canon for its reliability versus an Epson."To be ignorant of one's ignorance is the malady of the ignorant." Amos Bronson Alcott0 -
compatibles? *head against wall*
at least your warranty is with the small shop, as epson won't repair that printer now...0
