babies.....

ive got a delightful 11 month old son who always wants things he cant have. hes got more toys than you could shake a stick at and it doesnt matter how many you put infront of him, he always wants to wander off and play with everything hes not supposed to have, as this is my first nipper, is this normal? or has my child got a streak of satan in him whereby he will do all he can to wind daddy up???
be it the television (WOULDNT MIND BUT HE TURNED IT OFF WHEN FOOTBALL WAS ON!!!!!), bits of paper, the door, the fireguard, pulling cushions off the sofa, grabbing the dogs tail so the dog can walk off pulling him behind. and if you try to tell him off he sits and laughs then points at you and starts ranting back. short of sticking him in his pig pen, which im not very keen on, anything else i could do?
all of this and he could play with all them nice toys. im thinking about giving em all away and just buying him a ream of paper to play with. seems he would find it more entertaining than some warthog shaped teddy making stupid noises.

  • is it really normal to use the dog as a tug boat? what amazes me more is the stupid dog actually does it with no complaints. maybe its just this house. a condition of you living here is you must be mad

My DS is 2 and still into everything! i've has to put a little lock on my kitchen door as he kept going in there and attempting to put a load of washing on!
He has more toys than argos but still would rather play with anything thats not a toy. i can relate to the sky card! thankfully he's got over that now!

Very normal, my 16 month old seems to like doing everything I don't want him to do, the trick is to leave out things you don't mind/can't be trashed, my little man loves to play discus with the circular placemats and paddle in the dogs water bowl, annoying but harmless!

A warning note though, do be consistent in NOT letting him pull the dogs tail. He could damage the dog (the tail is attached to the spine), the dog may one day decide enough is enough, however good natured they are and worse still, he may think he can do it to another dog or cat, with disastrous results, my daughter tried to hug a cat when she was about a year old and came away looking like something out of a Freddy Kreuger nightmare!

Just try and relax, and enjoy him, this phase does pass - well, sort of!

  • You seem to be describing my 10 1/2 month DD :D. She has 2 big wicker boxes full of toys but no, she wants the TV remote, coasters off the coffee table, magazines, tube of hand cream etc, etc..... I let her have most of what she shouldn't really have as long as I'm watching her. I live in hope that she'll get bored of those things and she'll think her educational toys are the new novelty items ;)

    LOL Very normal!

Only advice I can give (apart from not letting him do that with the dog for reasons given above) is to baby proof.

Have a really good look around at baby level at the rooms your lad plays in. Is there anything within his reach that you don't want him touching and could be put somewhere else? We babyproofed in stages, from the floor up, as we weren't really sure what needed to be done at first.

Sofa cushions getting thrown on the floor and used as a toy? Great! Keeps him entertained, gives you peace! Paper being torn up and scattered? Fine as long as you keep things you don't want him to tear up out of reach. Making a load of noise with the saucepans? Fantastic! Very creative!

My point is that if there's just the stuff he can't hurt himself on or destroy to hand, he can use what's around him to play and that will teach him more than 'toys' will.

I loved this stage, but it's very tiring! Make sure you have a cuppa and keep it out of his reach! LOL
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

LOL - I second all the "it's normal" posts :D

Noticed you said you had lots of toys. I would recommend putting some away in boxes. When baby gets bored of the current toy selection, pack them away and get a different box out. Baby thinks they have a new set of toys, and promptly forget about the old ones ready for the next cycle ;)
Here I go again on my own....
