You could try this.

I've not had this problem so haven't any actual experience of this fix or how safe it is.
Is your machine fully up to date with patches?
Thanks - tried this, but unfortunately, still same problem."Hope for the Best

Thanks - tried this too, but test didn't really show anything conclusive up."Hope for the Best

Thanks for all your help
Have cleaned up the PC but I still have the original problem re black screen, Although it does disappear eventually, is really annoying as it takes so long to get on-line!

Id suggest now running a FULL scan with malwarebytes to be safe:idea:0

Also try a bit of a cleanup
Download CCLEANER
http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim
Run the CLEANER scan (UNTICK 'cookies')
Then run the REGISTRY scan (Backup the registry when it asks)
reboot
Download GLARY UTILITIES
http://www.glaryutilities.com/download/gusetup_slim.exe
Run the ONE CLICK scan
Goto MODULES / SYSTEM TOOLS / WINDOWS STANDARD TOOLS / then run SYSTEM FILE CHECKER:idea:0
