Thats standard with ALL rechargeable batteries really

Firstly the op may not be aware off it, thus the question mark and secondly the calibration procedure can vary from battery to battery, thus checking the
    manual.

On a wider point, some of the latest cordless tools state NOT to run down completely.

I actually run my laptop without it's battery attached at all. Just dig it out for the times I need it on the road. Which is seldom.

Will be interesting to see how well the battery performs when I do use it. Might buy a spare battery for it, so I can watch films on a big screen when flying. Who am I kidding... I'm normally asleep before the thing even takes off. ;)
  • 4hrs will be usually with the screen on the lower brightness settings, Bluetooth definitely turned off and probably wifi too.

You will find initially, as Windows boots, it showing quite a low time left which will increase. If you turn the screen brightness down, you'll notice it increase quitre significantly - even an hour or more extra.

Like cordless phones you mean? Well you wouldnt want them to lose all their settings so I can see that definitely

No, I was meaning Lithium batteries in power tools, drills etc.

The latest thinking seems to be, don't let them run flat every time.

Remember the fear of battery memory?
When you used to flatten a battery every time before charging.

Now you only run a battery down flat every now and again.

Buy any Laptop from any manufacturer and you won't get the quoted battery life in use.

Apple are generally pretty close to the mark. Their battery life figures are quoted for browsing the web wirelessly and doing some word processing.

It probably won't perform terribly well. You're supposed to keep the juice flowing on a semi-regular basis to keep a rechargeable battery running at peak performance.

I have tried that with my laptop but it does not power up at all. Maybe it is just my 4 year old Dell Inspiron but can you usually expect laptops to run off the mains without the battery attached?

they stated the battery would last 4 hours and like you said it has. I understand what your saying at its annoying when you think you should be able to do simple tasks and get a reasonable battery life, but they didnt lie they said 4 hours and you got 4 hours, they didnt say 4 hours whilst playing world of warcraft, its not always what they say that you should look at but what they dont say!
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.
