I know I am going to be accused of being a moany old biddy again, but please look at the 2007 accounts of this charity:
    http://www.charitycommission.gov.uk/registeredcharities/ScannedAccounts/Ends02/0001037402_ac_20070331_e_c.pdf

Out of an income of £724k, they only spent £141k on charitable activity. The rest was spent on fundraising costs, management and administration.

(They have failed to make annual returns for 3 years and, although the 2008 accounts have been submitted to the CC, they are not on the website for some reason.)

I dont know how much your daughter has to raise, but it occurs to me that it would be more efficient for her to donate the money direct to your local Phab or a similar group.

    A disgrace really.

Every charity should be required by law on every peice of litterature, advertising etc; to state how much they received in income and how much was spent on charitable activity so people can make an informed choice about giving.
When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.

My daughter Jenny is doing the Kilimanjaro Trek in September 2010 to raise money for Children Today.

This is a description of the charity from their website "Children Today raise funds to provide special equipment for children and young people with disabilities throughout the UK. Our aim is to ensure that every disabled child and young person fulfils their potential and leads an active childhood."

Any donations would be very gratefully received, no matter how small.

    Many thanks

I cant see a charity number.

    1. Any links must benefit a UK registered charity. The details of the charity number and link to the website must be given.

I found the charity on the CC website using the name of the charity. But then the charity's website won't give you the salient facts about the charity's finances which is why I always go to the CC website.

I cant see a charity number.
However, if there's a JustGiving link given (as there was in this case), then it's a safe bet that it's a UK registered charity, because you can't (AFAIK) get a JustGiving page to support anything that's NOT a UK registered charity.
Signature removed for peace of mind

This is a Moneysaving website, the aim of which is to help people to avoid wasting money. Sorry, if these comments have pricked your daughter's balloon, but some hard lessons, especially about being exploited, need to be learned early in life.

I apologise if my original post upset or offended anybody. That was never my intention. I obviously misjudged the use of the Charities Board.

    I have now removed it.

I read the original post and was not offended.
Children Today do amazing work providing equipment that is outwith the reach of parents of disabled children.
Anyone can crtiticise but I think its a laudable thing your daughter is doing for a great charity and my opinion is that its unfair to try and discredit a charity that does such amazing things for children. Children Today is also a member of the fund Raising Standards Board which champions fair & best pratice in fundraising.

Charities pay to join the FSB - they are self selecting and there is no external scruitiny of organisations which join. Their fundraising methods may be laudable, but my point remains that its unaceptable to spend only a sixth of the money you raise on your cause, with the rest going on fundraising and admin costs.
Which would be more beneficial to disabled children - for me to give £6 to the OP's daughter and £1 go to the children or for me to donate £6 elsewhere of which £5 would go to the children?

PS I am not upset, just pointing out the facts.
