Ecos radiation shielding Paint on interior walls

Options
Hi there

We have recently been recommended radiation shielding paint for the walls next to the beds in the house to eliminate high levels of radiation (100 htz?) in our walls.

Does anyone have any view or experience of this? Is is really worth doing, does it make a huge difference?

I have found a company called Ecos paints, but it costs over 50 quid a litre from there.

Is there any cheaper or easier way?

  • If you believe you are beingexposed to unsafe levels of radiation why not speak to the Health Protection Agency and the National Radiological Protection Board.

What kind of radiation are you talking about (ionising or non-ionising), where is it coming from and what makes you think it is unsafe?
  • hi there, thanks for the tips

As I understand the radiation within the walls comes from the wiring. I don't know what type or radiation it is (ionising or non-ionising) and am unsure how I would find out. Because of this, I don't know if it is appropriate to contact the authorities.

since moving to our present house, none of us have slept well and it was suggested by a feng shui consultant ( who measured the radiation levels) that putting on protective paint would decrease the radiation levels.

As far as I know, we are not near any pylons, overhead cables or power stations.

  • chances are the feng shui consultant gave you a reading that would fit the price they charged you. the levels emitted by electrical wiring are not enough to cause problems. if you do have a high level then its due to faulty wiring.

if you are using a metal bed then change it for a wooden one and use an unsprung mattress, as the metal bed can act as an antenna for the EMF. this is known to cause sleeplessness

That's non-ionising and sounds like nothing to worry about at all. Just a money making exercise.

hi need more money and easily aggravated. Thanks for the advice. It may be a better spend to get an electrician in to see if we need a new fuse box, could that perhaps be a cause of faulty wiring.

Need-More-Money, what does non-ionising radiation mean, I am not familiar with the term?

We already have a non-wooden bed and an air sprung mattress, so that won't make a difference.

with warmest wishes and gratitutde for your help.

Ionising radiation is radiation that has enough energy to remove electrons from cells, which means it has the potential to cause damage to cells. X-rays and Gamma rays are ionising radiation.
Non-ionising radiation is radiation that does not have enough energy to do this. Light from your light bulb, radio waves, and radiation from your mobile phone are all non-ionising.
When electricity flows through a cable it emits some non-ionising electromagnetic radiation. This is normal and unlikely to do any harm. Unfortunately people are frightened whenever the word radiation is used and this can be used by some to take advantage and perhaps make money. We are all exposed to natural radiation (both ionising and non-ionisng) everyday and the vast majority (even ionising radiation) does no harm at all.

How did your 'consultant' measure the radiation level? Did they give you a figure about how high it was and how that compares to a 'normal' home?
  • I'd be very concerned about getting an electrician in and explaining your feng shui based concerns, if he's honest he'll laugh and if he's not he could take you for a ride.

I'm very skeptical of the claims made by Ecos paints that their product eliminates 99% of Electrical radiation.

You could pin som tin foil to the wall next to you bed, this would have the same effect, though not very feng shui, you could see if it made any difference to your sleep patterns.

    Or

It could be time to make yourself a tinfoil hat, this will block out most EM radiation as well as protecting you from unwanted alien mind control.
  • Is there any genuine scientific theory why such low level EM radiation could disrupt sleep? Can't think of any mechanism by which this could happen for general household levels, except perhaps if you have a very bad dimmer switch. The 50hz buzzing noise could keep you awake. :)

Could the sleep problems be related to being in a strange environment (i.e a new house) or from the electromagnetic radiation from the sun in the morning if you don't have thick enough curtains on a window facing sun rise?

I doubt it, it would be a waste of good scientific research time as if we were being irradiated by our household wiring the whole nation would have disrupted sleep. Something the Daily Mail would be onto like a shot.
If the OP's wiring is faulty it will demonstrate through blown fuses and electric shocks, not radiation sickness.
