Tariff Advice for Samsung A800 (current O2 payg)

Hi

not sure if this is the right forum for asking questions (rather than posting tips etc.) but...

I am a regular user of cashback deals and currently myself and my wife are using the Nokia 7600 / Talk 600 deal from E2Save.

At Christmas I gave my daughter her first mobile phone. Peer pressure meant that she wanted a Samsung A800, which I managed to secure on PAYG in the great Argos sell-off (so far so good)

I have registered her onto the £10month 300 free texts deal but am wondering whether I should be able to get her a better deal by switching to a contract (with rebates/cashback)

£120 per year and quite expensive call charges meaning that, given the time of day that she uses the phone, she only gets around 30 minutes per month - is not a patch on the 500 mins + 100 texts that myself and my wife currently get for £4.99 per month.

However, she loves her A800 and so I won't be switching her onto 3g any time soon!

I have been searching around but I cannot find any decent O2 Cashback deals anywhere.

There are a couple of Vodafone and a couple of Orange deals that look potentially tempting, although it would mean that I need to unlock her phone (not in itself an issue I don't think - although I haven't been able to do it with unlock codes - I believe the A800's were changed so that they need a cable unlock - can anyone confirm?)

Anyway, to cut a long story short. I'm looking for a deal of around 100mins + 100texts - the texts will probably ALL be used each month, the minutes may not. (i.e. a minutes only deal where texts cost 12p each would not be a good one!!)

Can I get anything better than the current O2 PAYG (Free texts) deal?

I'm also wary of smaller Cashback companies given the warnings in the Mobile industry press recently re. VAT and also higher levels of redemption .... I don't want a retailer going bust on me!!

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Cashback deals - Go with https://www.fwdcellular.com

I have 4 mobile contracts with them in total on their rent-free deals. Got my cashback from 2deals promptly and currently awaiting for the other 2 cashbacks, which I took out last month. No one from here n other forums had a problem with them paying up the cashbacks. My advice is to go with them.

With regards to using the A800. I currently use one and had the unlock codes from Virgin, whom I got it from. You can get it unlock in various places like markets n private mobile shops for £10.

there is free s/w on the net to unlock these but you will need a genuine samsung t100 cable (the one you get with a new t100 if you know anyone with one)
or i can sort it for you if you cover post and a charity donation

Any sign of your remaining cashbacks?. It's been 6 week since they got my claim form and not seen a penny. No reply to emails either, hope it's just a temp hicup and not something more serious.

Mu daughter has one of these PAYG and uses all her texts but hardly makes any calls. Do you know the 'scam' you can use to get the free texts without topping up each month? I use it for my daughter and it works a treat. Let me know if you need any more info.
