  • Hi Starry Skyes,

Have subscribed to your diary after you posted a message of support on mine. It feels good knowing that I am starting my 2010 moneysaving plan alongside so many others like yourself too.

Many of your aims seem to coincide with mine like spending less on food, magazines, sticking to an exercise regime etc. Hopefully with the help of other MSEers we can achieve great things this year!

    Happy New Year!

    Morning Starry Skies,

We've had a quiet one as well, just cooked fish and watched lots of movies. It was lovely. At one point our neighbours tried to persuade us to go to London Eye but it was just so cold, so stayed at home. Today off to the gym, cook nice pasta and write the assignment for OU. Quite boring ;).

    Have a good day.

hi stary, well done for sorting out your house insurance. Don't forget to look at quidco to see if your best quote also has cash back on it.

Thanks for that Lemon Tree, haven't looked at that before so will do now! :D

Thanks for the welcome! :hello: Happy New Year!
  • Well, the new year is finally here! Hope everyone had a lovely evening. I've had a very bad headache, taken tablets and taking it easy on the sofa with my quilted throw! Can't even blame the alcohol as didn't have any in the end!! Stayed in and watched a couple of DVDs. Ooh I don't blame you for not going to the London Eye last night Kavics, was very cold last night, your evening sounds lovely  Nice and fresh today, may go for a walk in the woods later although the flat still needs abit of a 'spring clean', didn't get much done in the end yesterday!

Going to start a spending diary for this year, really need to address the frittering of money and hope that if I have to record it may help me stop?! Going to set a budget, take money out of the bank at the start of a week and make sure we live off that.

I want to get some real exercise in later to get the New Year of to a good start. Also, have Eastenders to watch (I am sad!) and Doctor Who.

Hope everyone has a good day and aren't too hungover ;)

  • Hasn't been a bad day today. Got lots of tidying/decluttering done and 30 minutes on the airwalker and a few sit ups... will do more tomorrow. Need to go food shopping tomorrow, had leftovers for dinner today which is very :money:of me as I never normally eat them! Think I'll set a food budget of £25 for me and hubby for the week and see how we get on! I'll be very impressed if we stick to this, usually spend much more. We have a few things in the cupboard like pasta, potatoes, soups etc and things in the freezer to use up (frozen veg, pizza etc.). Very determined, so sick of spending a fortune on food!

Headache that has been on and off all day is very much back on, so going to go and get some sleep.

    Sweet dreams everyone,

    Starry Skies x
  • Been a lovely day today so far. Went for a long walk with hubby in the gorgeous forest and there was lots of lovely snow! Took some lovely photos and think I burnt a few calories, although nearly slid down a hill at one point!!

    Total spends today:

Home bargains: £11 on shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, cleaning stuff etc.

Spent £16 of food budget, which should be enough food for the rest of the week now. Got some good deals on some reduced pizza and quorn as well.

5 bean chilli with rice and garlic bread for dinner today (hubby's cooking). Wanted to go for a run tonight but very icy outside so may stick with the airwalker this evening!
  • Just wanted to say hello! I keep a spending diary on here as well, and have been doing since mid-November, I find it invaluable. You can definitely cut down on groceries by reducing portion sizes and shopping in the Reduced for Quick Sale aisle.

Did you ever find cheaper house insurance?

Good luck with the job hunting, keeping fit etc

Hello! :hello: Thanks for popping in. I'll have a look for your spending diary! I did find a better deal for the house insurance, found a new policy which is £100 a year less than my current policy, but that was due to increase this month so glad that's sorted!

    HI SS,
Well If you can stick to £25 for both of you, than you have to give me tips, we spend around £50 at the moment:eek:. We cook everything from scratch, and he takes pack lunch to work, we don't drink alcohol or squashes, and we certainly don't buy sweets. We do however spend appr. £20 on fruits and veg, so that's a major part of our shopping budget.

I saw lots of people running today, I did as well, till the gym:o. It's freezing cold outside!
