Reaching for those stars... A 'trying to be positive' diary

Hello to anyone who stumbles across my new diary! :hello:

I've been abit of a lurker around MSE for a while now and have decided to sign up and now start my own diary after looking at the many other inspirational ones on this site.

I'm happily married to my lovely hubby but that's possibly the only thing going for me at the moment!! I'm currently unemployed  but am hopefully due to start some temporary work next week. Basically, I recently left a Post graduate course due to mainly being really unhappy with my choice of career which was also beginning to affect my health (This was a few weeks ago). So we only have one 'safe' and permanent wage coming in at the moment (I had funding for my course).

Hubby's wage is enough to cover rent, council tax, electric etc and my debt payments each month but leaves hardly any money for general living expenses. We also had a (late!) honeymoon booked for next year (couldn't go when we got married earlier this year due to hubby not being able to get time off from work, have only paid the deposit) but am unsure whether we'll be able to go now depending on what happens with me on the job front.

Debts:

Loan- currently repay £200 a month (total now around £4000 I think but need to check)

Capital one- Owe £180

Catalogue- Owe £80
Overdraft- currently at £2500 out of £3000
(Hubby also has own debt but that's another story!!)

Time for some serious cutbacks.

My main aims from writing this diary is to give me something to focus on. I need to try and be positive and I really want to make some changes to my life...
  • Spend less money on FOOD and frittering money. I want to create a serious shopping budget and stick to it. We have spent ALOT on eating out and take ways in the past and am finding it hard to give up :o
  • Make money!
  • Sort my career out...
  • Learn to drive
  • Stop buying books and magazines
  • Give up diet coke (another major addiction)
  • Get fit! Take up running and get on the airwalker!!
  • Be happy

  • Thanks Hypno and P and F for the lovely welcome!

Can't believe it's a new year tomorrow, but I'm very ready for it!

    Things to do today:
    • Find a cheaper home insurance
    • Tidy the flat
    • Put a wash on
    • An hour of exercise- have steeper, airwalker and even a trampette somewhere  may dig that out
Been looking for jobs this morning and have emailed another CV. I've seen a couple of jobs that would be perfect for me but a crucial requirement is to be able to drive! mad at myself for not taking my test earlier, but this is definately a goal for next year.

Hope everyone has a nice day :D

    Hi Starry Skies,

Welcome to diaryland! I know exactly how you feel re career choice, I was in the same situation after finishing Uni. I studied Economics and graduated when I was 23, I knew probably second year on that this was not what I wanted to do. I am now 30, working with children and doing a degree with OU in Early Years and Childhood. My job is still not the "ONE" but I'm getting there,I'm enjoying it, I know what I want to do but need to get the right qualification first. Do you have any idea what you want to do? Just give yourself time for figuring out, than do whatever you can to achieve it.

    Good luck, I shall subscribe...
  • Thanks Kavics. You must be very busy and motivated! It's great that you're doing your degree knowing it's what you really want to do. I loved my first degree and have always worked in the same sector but feel I need to do something different. Well, we'll see how it goes! ;)

    Hi Starry Skies,

Good luck for 2010 and Happy Hogmanay *subscribes*
  • And you Swinstie  hope it's a good one!
  • Things to do update:

Have found a home insurance policy that is less than my current one- it's up for renewal mid jan and they were going to double my monthly payments taking it to £30 a month  but have found a better priced policy for £12 a month so that's good!

Hubby has surprised me by coming back from work early which is lovely, will have some help in tidying up now! ;) Want a spick and span flat for a the start of the New Year.

Is anyone doing anything exciting tonight?? We're just staying into night with a bottle of wine, think we'll cook a nice meal as well (I will avoid the local Curry house at all costs- must save money!!) We were invited to a friends but don't really feel up to it... this was meant to be a great year, after getting married and everything, will hopefully feel better when I get my life sorted :o

hi stary, well done for sorting out your house insurance. Don't forget to look at quidco to see if your best quote also has cash back on it.
