Happy diarying Sal, I really hope the new year brings you happiness. Sorry you didn't get any present at all from OH, that really is rather selfish.

    Happy Birthday xxx

OK trying to work out money..its tight as I don't have enough money to cover everything, as benefits etc come in throughout the month I need to have a months worth to cover bills up front.

So as it stands I have
£978.83 in the bills account and I need £992.53 (car insurance has gone out as its 1st payment)

I have £107.36 for everything else this month, Food, Petrol and any odds and sods...could be interesting living on £25 a week. I think I will have to use my tesco vouchers that I was saving to use on a holiday in the summer. At the moment eating is slightly more important.

So I need to meal plan like crazy, any cheap meal suggestions?

Dont buy meat from Supermarkets unless on Special, go to local butcher if you have one.

Buy veg from local Markets, its cheaper.

Drop the branded products and shop at more than one supermarket, you'll find more bogofs then.

If you are renting Sally, does this mean that you are 'tied' to the area or would you go where the work is for OH?

    Thanks Pepe
I do rent and even if OH was offered a job elsewhere (he has applied for things all over the country) I wouldn't move, DD is very settled in school after her first term, Im happy here, family and friends near by. OH would either have to commute or live away

Is meat really that much cheaper in the butcher? I think I need to go back to basics and work out what are the cheap cuts and what I can cook with them

    Oxtail makes lovely soup etc.
Liver is cheap and can be great when cooked well.
Belly pork is as good as chops.
Chicken thighs make great casserole/curry especially when cooked 'bone-in and are v cheap.
Pound for pound, the LOIN cuts are cheap and are ALL meat.
Dont ever but chicken breasts from supermarket ( espesh frozen, they are a major rip-off), stick to whole birds.
